I like to listen to music or run a tutorial while i'm modeling, and I was wondering if i buy a audio card will it help the performance of my cpu? I'm using an integrated sound card, and i've read that it takes some of the cpu's speed away. I don't play games on my computer,so i don't think i need something that has DD 5.1 or anything like that. Maybe an mp3 player would be better? Any suggestions?

Yep, but make sure it's reputable, (creative labs is always a good bet).

On board sound cards pipe processing power away from your cpu, even I'm led to beleive when they're not doing anything, you don't see it in your task browser because it isn't a function of the OS.

Typically, I think you can expect between 5 and 10% increase of speed.

Looking at your system, you will not experience much of a performance hit from using the onboard solution. While modelling and using the UI of your 3D app, you're using just one of the two cores on that X2 CPU of yours. The other CPU can be used to drive the audio and whatever else you have running. I would just keep on going with what you have.

Though, I will say that onboard sound solutions generally tend to suck away CPU performance, this is only noticable on low end systems..

Chaintech AV710 for 2 channel high res audio. Performance can't be matched by it's price. It simply can't compete with the Audigy2 ZS for gaming. AV710 + High Sample rate + Kernel Streaming = win.

Buying a soundcard will not speed up your system at all. The onboard audio will only have an effect if its actually being used, just sitting there and playing some music won't take a fraction of a percent of your cpu power.
