View Full Version : create helper class obj-need dynamic mesh

hello

trying to find if possible to script creation of a helper. working with open scene graph and want to change type of mesh from static to dynamic inside osg. maya mesh normally output as dynamic, meaning rotation limits can be placed on a object, but max meshes are concidered static. found a way around is to link mesh to a bone node, which then allows the mesh to be dynamic. however a bone node is for animation, not just for allowing limits
(degree of freedom).
find flight studio can do it, but figure there must be someway to script out a helper that allows for rotation limits.

Max 8 has limits built in. Other than than you a can use a custom defintion for a script controller to look at. This way its name indepentant via the "this". You can also base fn's inside this definition inside a rollout for the object to look at.

You might get problems of self referencing - i.e the object looking at its self to check the rotation so a dummy as a parent may be need and the ($.transfrom * inverse parent.transform) to get local rotations to base off.

Or you could do a euler to matrix, quat angle axis then base the fn off that.
