View Full Version : Attached ear, now I got wrinkles...

I'm modeling a head and I just got finished attaching the ear to the head and I've got wrinkles all around the ear.

I modeled the ear seperate of the head model, now when I got the ear to a point where I was satisfied with it, I decided it to combine it with the head and merge the verticies. So I put the ear in the proper location for the ear, then combined the two polygon objects. I then merged all the verticies. And when you merge those verticies it moves all the edges, so it's moved the edges and I've got all these nasty wrinkles (which can be seen better in Sub-div mode).

Now when I try and move the verticies so they make the edges straight and smooth, it just messes up some other edges and it remains wrinkled.

There must be an easier way to get these wrinkles smooth. And I have tried Sculpt polygons tool with the smooth option, it just tends to make things messier.

Can anybody help???

can we see a wireframe, maybe you have too many horizontal loops, you could try terminating some loops in the ear before they go into the head.

Do you mean wrinkles in the ear?? What I meant was actually on the head, just around the ear (just outside of it's perimiter). I wish I still had photoshop, I'll try and use Microsoft pain to show you what I mean.....

Their's just too many edges to smooth correctly :( It's really stressful and time consuming. Thats why I must assume there must be an easier way to smooth them than how I am (selecting a vertex then moving it so it appears to be straight...).

I would remove a lot of those edges (horisontal), there's way too many! That is why you get those wrinkles/banding. The less edges (vertices) you have, the "smoother" (more even) the result will be when you smooth the object.

Yeah I completely agree, it's just that a lot of those edges that I must remove are very important to certain distinguishable parts of this guy's face!!! Like nose, lips, eyes. *sigh* I will try and remove them from the side and back, then triangle them to the ear.

I seriously appreciate the help I am getting, and wouldn't mind more tips posted :D.

this is just a case of bad topology

Yeah I'm a n00by :P. I've got the nose eyes and mouth the way I want them, they do have loops around them. I just didn't know loops were important for the ears, atleast that far out... Wow thanks, tomorrow I'll clean up all those annoying edges at the bottum, then make more loops. Thanks muchos ^_^
