looking for any crist and also any ideas for a background really..
sword and boots from the LW content..

I didn't really miss the background in this pic. I mean, the style and lighting you have now seem to fit the image right. So if you were to put in a background, make it as dark as possible. Don't draw to much attention to it. Don't want to loose the feel there is to it right now.

Volumetric light maybe?
As for the model, either his head is too big or his shoulders too narrow imo. The joints of his fingers are overly pronounced, too.

cool model and rendering.
check out these stills and look at how they use light. what do you want to draw attention to? how can you use light and shadown to emphasize a certain part of the render? I would try to separate him from the background in an interesting but subtle way. the really dark background is cool, but it's so dark that you can't really appreciate the figure completely.
hope that sparks something.

The background isnt too bad actually. Normally, I think that a black background is good, but given the dark character to begin with, that may not be such a good option. Try making the entire background textured, with a darker shade of greenish brown to the noise.

Much better! A little secondary light on the cape will help to define it a bit.

yeah, maybe if you rim-lit the cape as it decends down his body, that would define him just enough, but not give too much away.
looks really nice!
the vertical blur of the background makes it a bit clean (so smooth), can you "grunge" it up or add some grit or noise to match the look/feel of the character more?
