RebeccaK suggested I post some stuff here. I'm not really looking for feedback, but feel free if you like.

I had the amazing opportunity to spend my final school year at RISD's extension in Rome Italy. The following sketches are from January to October 1991, more or less in chronological order...

Here's a piece from 1991 when I was fresh out of school. Black and white charcoal pencils on acrylic-washed paper. Spent about 4 hours on this one. Damn proportions... the length of that left bicep bugs me to this day. Overall I like the piece though, fun crosshatching.

Finally getting back into regular sketching after a long hiatus, about 14 years.

Battling the proportions a little in these, I also mostly avoided the head, wanted to concentrate on form. I washed the paper ahead of time with acrylic paint (14 yrs ago!), then I used black and white charcoal pencils. I like to work from a medium tone, can push in and out quickly so it's kind of like sculpting.

And finally, a couple sketches from a recent trip to the Harvard Museum of Natural History.

Great to see your work here! Would you mind a lot if I changed the name of your thread to "Anatomy Thread of EricChadwick"? This helps me to keep things recognizable and organized...plus people breezing thru are more likely to understand what your thread is about. :)

I'm completely exhausted after a long day of work + school, but I'd like to say I really like your piece, with the descriptive text "White prismacolor pencil on black-painted paper". A very nice range of work here ~ wow, you took a 14 year hiatus? That's a long time! What prompted you to return to figurative work? It's a shame to put away this much talent. :)

Great to see your stuff here! It's always great to see new work ~ well, it's new to us! I enjoy seeing new people on the forum. Thanks for posting ~ hope you will participate in the Open Figure Drawing Workshops ~ OFDWs. It's a great way to keep your skills sharp and to watch some really great work develop along the way.

No problem, feel free to rename.

I hear you about being exhausted after a long day. My job is an artistic one already, not much drawing, but it does serve as a creative outlet. At home I have a full family life with three young (gorgeous!) kids (what parent doesn't think their kids are gorgeous, eh?), so... not much time for sketching. I doubt I'll get to any of the workshops, but thanks for the offer.

And thanks for the kind words. I've saved off pics that you've posted, into my inspiration library. Nice work.

Eric,

That's super nice of you to say! I can completely see how having such a big family could keep you otherwise occupied! :) Kids are adorable, I have a hilarious Halloween story I'll have to share later...

I'm sorry you won't be able to join in the OFDWs, but definitely understand! One only has so many hours in the day...as a kid, I never understood what people meant by saying that they wanted longer days...now I do!!! ;)

Hope to see more of your work on the forum! :)
