I'm a full time freelance animator/illustrator, share a studio/biz with 2 others, an illustrator and a mograph animator. Been working with c4d since 2000 and 3d in general since around 1997.
My primary focus is science, medical, and educational material, for broadcast, tradeshows, dvd and cd packages. Do a lot of print work as well (but I get to mix it up with unique fun projects too now and then).

I work for the city of College Station ** waiting for the "city worker" jokes to subside ** I work in the water production plant as an operator. I am also the shops computer techno guy.
I do 3D as a hobby, which did help when we were doing the planning stages on the facility upgrades. I did a prebid viz in Rhino to show the city council and the rest of public utilities what the upgrades were going to look like and also so the contractor(s) would have an idea on what would be expected. I used Rhino because I also have Flamingo which enabled me to enclude the exact masonary we wanted as well as trees, grass and other vegitation changes. I got cudo's and a free lunch at Johnny Carino's for my effort, I much prefer free lunch to cudo's.

Last gig was a TD, now I'm sort of a render TD I guess, and always a trainer. Also trying to do a bit of sales demoing on the side.
Ideally I'd like to do a lot less render wrangling and more Character TD or animation, fortunatley General TD's are in high demand for cinema right now, just wish it could be more character oriented, and that I had more time to do more of the jobs popping up.

Just like Fritz London who studied philosophy before becoming a physicist. He was one of the originators of QM around 1926. I therefore expect a lot from you in the future! :D
At my age I am a realist. First I was an optimist, now I am a realist. When I am really old I guess I'll be a pessimist. What else is left?
For the artist in you: Physics creates just a framework in which autonomous intelligence and creativity can develop. Physics can not explain art.
Ernest Burden

Physics can not explain art.
Why not? Art explains physics rather nicely.
My job description? All of it, everything. I buy the supplies, ship product, produce everything. And I'm really, really, tired. I want to find something else to do. At some point a person must realize that they cannot know everything, cannot do everything. So one must learn to step back and watch others beat you at your own game, and be glad about it. that's being in a senior position, I suppose.
My job is all of it, and I've done that long enough that I want none of it. Self-employment, in a nutshell. Aspire...

That doesn't mean that the inverse is true. However, I phrase it differently: Physicis can not explain the existence of art. :)

I've often thought about starting a freelancers anaonymous support group thread somewhere.
There are those precious weeks where you are slow and can catch up on learning more c4d (or having a life away from the studio) but a day or 2 of that and you are already worrying about when you can bill again. And b4 you know it its late nights and weekends again.

Just a freelancer who fell in love with 3d and it's uses for explanatory graphics, pre-vis, architectural, and product renderings.
I was in the printing industry for 12 years, doing everything from proofing to scanning to pressman to prepress manager, before I caught the 3d bug a few years back.
This is a great community, btw. Helped me a lot--and still does!

It requires every bit as much (at least as much) imagination to become a successful physicist as it does to be a talented and creative artist. It's no coincidence there are this many physicists here. Of course, in the case of CG, there's the technical competence involved too, but my point's still valid.

Well l guess you could call me a freelancer 2D/3D animation designer/Managing Director as l decided to leave 15yrs of the printing trade as a machinist (not a graphics artist) behind me. It was just something to bring in a wage, l had always been into art at school as well as music but from about the age of 15-23 art seemed to take a step back into the distance and then l got a dv camera & that lead me to After effects which in turn lead me to C4D and here l am now. So l started my own business doing TVC etc. as well as sub contracting to advertising adgencies etc. So that's me and althrough there are some days that are stressing due to the fact that l don't have the understanding of C4D like some of the guru's around here, l'd still prefer to work a 12hr day doing this type of work than doing a 8hr day with what l was doing.
By the way for anybody who thinks l wish l could do that but l can't because of this & that..... Well l'll be the first to say that l don't have any children to support which makes money issue's a bit easier l suspect, but l was 31 when l took my leap of faith. Leaving the printing industry with no street credit in 2D/3D animation as well as not being the best people person when l don't know someone and also l live in a small regional town in Australia which means there is a limited market.
Having said all that l would do what l'm doing now any day before going back to what l used to do and alot of thanks goes to all the people on this forum.Even though l try not to ask for help if can, it's great to know that someone on the forum will offer there advice to help someone they don't even know. It makes ya feel good inside doesn't it

I'm teaching "Basics of 3d animation and graphics" at a German University and I'm working on a freelance basis on various 3d and compositing projects.
The most prominent thing I worked on is the cinematic movie "Der Kleine Eisbär 2" (which is doing quite well in german cinemas at the moment). I did all Crowd simulations of schools of fishes along with some traditional animations in this movie.

Nice to see CINEMA used in the second part too. In the first part it was used for the black ship and an iceberg afaik.

I think I have to disapoint you. "Kleiner Eisbär 2" was made with 3d MAX and a bit of Maya...
I was just mentioning it here because it's the project which stands out most in my resume. Although no Cinema was used.
Ah, tough luck :(
Thanks for the info though
