quick question. is an internal harddrive installable in one pc (A) and then removed to be installed in another pc (b)?

I want to use an IHD to copy all my stuff from computer A and then move it to computer B. I have an external HD, but there is not enough room on it, to swap the files from A to B so I was wondering if my thought above was possible.

Any help is appreciated.

Yes its 100% possible as long as the computer your taking it from and brining to the next doesn't have some hardware encryption feature. Truely it shouldn't be an issue so give it a go it won't harm it.

Oh ya also as long as its not a raided harddrive either (2 HDD's running as 1). Taking that to another computer could cause issues along with loss of data.

You could also buy cheap, one of those usb cases that you slide you're interior drive into, converting it to a highspeed external usb2 drive. Buying the case and drive separately is cheaper than buying an external drive. Go figure.

just make sure you turn off your computer when you remove/plugin the hardrive:p

Oh thought you where just going to move the drive to the other system not make an harddrive that you can move between them.

Well this is the case that I use for my external 160gig Seagate.

It works like a charm and I have not had any issue with it since I got it.

it was my initial thought, but now that I know about these cases. I might go this route instead.
Thanks for all the info.

There is hardly any differences between internal and external hard drives. Most of the time they're the same drive, one's just attached to a USB driven external enclosure while the other doesnt come in any sort of enclosure;)

External enclosures are pretty cheap. They can be as little as $15-$20.
