View Full Version : Character: Low Poly Dwarf
ThunderTurtle 11-16-2002, 04:27 PM Ok, This model is a couple months old, It's the only low poly I have done so far, but I'm starting to work on a few more, so I thought I would post it up for some feedback. It clocks in at 1050 tri's. Comments, Crits, always welcome. Thanks guys

I like it... the texture seems fine.
I really want to see your other characters.
By the way, this may sound stupid since I've never done any game model... but when you said 1050 "tri's". Is it better if people work in triangles rather than quads in game modeling? Sorry if this is a silly question. :scream:
Thanks in advance.

For low poly you general want to do everything in tri's(3 sided polys). The reason for this is that game engines do all thier calculations with triangles. If you model 4 or more sided polys it's just more work for the engine to convert it into triangles, or at least that's my best understanding as an artist and not a programmer.

my understanding is that it doesnt matter. If you think about it even a 5 or 300 sided poly will have a certain # of verticies and it stil splits it up into polygons. So a polygon will have 3 virticies anytime. I found it strange in say 3d studio max that it calls 2 polygons with 4 verticies a "polygon" when it really isnt a true polygon. I think the main reason why games can get away with throwing polies everywhere is because they dont have to worry about subdivsions.
Im not 100% sure, but i think im close, anybody cre to correct me?
