View Full Version : Glow in Composite - Camera Match
JasperCG 10-30-2005, 01:27 PM I am working on a camera match scene and am able to get it matched up well as well as the basic matched lighting. That all works well. My difficulty comes when I need to have one of my 3d objects give off light and affect the composited image. For example a modeled "eat at joe's" sign or something would have a glow that bleeds onto the composite wall behind it.
I am using 3ds max and the Matte material to create the shadows and placement of the objects, but the Matte material does not accept light glows or projected light only shadows.
How can I do this?
Thanks

Try use masks with color correction, brightness, tint:)

As stated in the Post... 3ds max. I want to do this within max if I can. I don't think Masks will work, but if so, please describe how you can use masks to make the shining 3d light appear on the 2d composited image in a proper 3 dimensional manner.

It is using some compositing app?
If yes you can try to simulate in the composition software

I'd use a compositing program to composite the plates after you render them from Max.
Then it's easy:
Make a new render, where you give the wall in 3DSMax a white material. Hide the 3D sign. Put light sources where the 3D sign is. This will create a plate where you only see where the sign illuminates the wall, shown with white on black. Use this plate in compositing to color correct the wall. Voila. :)
