View Full Version : First human heat attempt.
Col-Phil-Bilko 10-30-2005, 08:33 AM Hello;
This is my first attempt at a human head, I used no ref material as I wanted to see what I could do without it. Even though I know what most of you are thinking ;) Yes REF images are needed and are under rated. I do use them for all of my other models. This is just a test.
I am pretty happy at how it turned out :) I am gonna try skinning her next.
What do you think.

Thanks for taking the time guys.
Take care.

don't worry, generally means there's not much to crit. she looks good to me. i would say maybe give her more of a bridge of her nose and make her mouth curve around her jaw more. her face may be too narrow in the lower half, but the relationship of jaw width from front. 3/4 and side is hard to nail. maybe post a side view and it will help us. also, a word on presentation: the lighing you're using is a little flat. to spruce it up use a shadowcasting spot light or directional as your main light, in front of her 45 degrees to the right, say and 45 degrees up with intensity one, then have your fill light .15 intensity with no shadows, in front of her to the right but not elevated. and maybe a back light. that will help the light/shadows model your character for us to see. if you slave these to your modeling camera (so they follow it) then it helps in modeling too.
i'm against skinning the head with anything other than open/close joints of jaw and eyes. i like blendshapes for everything else, but i'm neither a pro or that experienced.
good luck.
