View Full Version : Low poly babe

Started this only 2 days ago, for competition #30 on cgchat.
Not very motivated due to NO feedback and overwhelmed by work...here what i've got so far.
I don't think i'll meet the deadline...maybe i'll finish the charachter anyway increasing the polycount a bit.

Im new to character modeling, but ive noticed some things to tweak to make your model look better. Womens hips are wide, your models arent that wide, so make them stick out a ways more than they are now. Also, maybe make the upper abdoman under the breasts not as wide. THe breasts also seem a little to big, and the legs a bit thin. Maybe just play aroudn with those ideas and see what u can do.

I don't have any crits, I think she's really good. And I think she'll look great when you've done her hair, clothes and texture (hehe I nearly said makeup).
As a matter of interest, what's her polycount?
Also, if possible, I'd really love it if you could post a closeup wire of her head (cause I'm tyring to learn how to model heads at the moment and studying other peoples wires really helps me).

Thanks for your comment
Dunno about hips and abdomen...i kinda like them this way, but i'll try. for the breast size i was thinking about a reduction too, maybe during modelling i went too much into comfortable vertex position to work with and not too much on general size.
At the moment with placeholder hairs, shoes and dress the polycount is 3200 out of 3500
i still have to add four "belts" maybe a sort of ears and the weapon itself...still i'm not happy with the poly reduction to the body...i wish the limit was 4000 polies.
Here's the wire

I spot a 5 sided poly in the upper mouth area. :)

You win a candy! :D
Vey nice concept. I think you can make the shoulders wider as you have done in the concept Wide shoulders won't make a woman more masculine. Wide shoulders and wide hips connected by a narrow waist can be very attractive.
Edit: Actually im not sure where the shoulders end because the arms are up. They may be wide enough.
At risk of running against every other crit you've gotten so far, I'd have to say I would narrow the shoulders, freeze/not change the ribs and abdomen, and widen out the hips and upper thighs a little. All a matter of personal tastes, but I'd go with those.
It's hard to get a nice shape with really low polys huh? I been trying this also, you're doing fine imo. While polycount is an issue obviously I would probably suggest dropping an extra row or two into the shoulders and arms, the upper body is just always a focal point and guys always check out certain areas that remind them of boobs or an ass. Sorry for the really crude explanation, it's just how it is. Think of the popularity of shoulders for an example. Girls show shoulders when they can't flash something more graphic, guys check out shoulders for curves innit. Wow, behavioural psychology rotates slowly in its grave.
Damn, I just realised something. Are you holding back polys to doubleface that skirt/sarong deal dude? I was making a low poly girly for the same compo but I got my ass kicked off by the "no backfacing"/"no two sided textures" rule. Unless you double face that sarong/skirt you are gonna get some problems there manny. I'd read over the rules again just to be sure, don't entirely take my word for it. Hope it proves workable for you, good luck with the compo.

The sarong is already double sided for the reason you mention.
I can't insert more polies at the moment. I have only 300 left and i still miss weapon and belts...maybe i can squeeze her boobs (in a poly limit meaning :D) and get back a row to use somewhere else...
Back to work now.
Oops, forgetting to mention her boobs is about as uncharacteristic for me as you can get :/
Basically I was gonna say but forgot to mention; imo you can get more out of low poly booborz with a grid rather than cone pattern. think geosphere rather than sphere/pole basis. Imo can get more shape for your money and maybe save some polys this way in lower resolution models.
