View Full Version : drawing splines over an object
barbapapa 10-29-2005, 06:13 PM hi people, just one quick question, is there a way of projecting a spline over an object, Making it "live" (maya terminology), or maybe if some one knows of a script or plugin that allows to do this...
thanks in advanced

I think you want the snap settings. Set the snap options to ponts and/or faces.
If the curve already exists, just set up the viewport to the projection you want and then use the tweek tool with snap on, just move eack point the merest fraction and it will snap to the other objects surface.

Yeah definately the snapping will let you draw curves onto the mesh. If the curve already exsists, however, just use the shrinkwrap deformer.

What are you using it for? There are about four ways (that I can count) to do it in XSI, but the way that is best really depends on what you want to do. Can you give us anymore detail?
maya's make live command allows you to draw curves on surfaces making them stick to that surface even when you deform it... it's different than snapping btw

maya live mode is simply shrinkwrap living always on top of the generator node.
applying a shrinkwrap at the shape entry point in the construction history, and then adding and moving points at leisure at modeling mode, will do exactly that.

thanks guys , shrink wrap is working good. basicly i needed to create a metallic structure around an object. You must be tired of people coming from maya ;) (or happy as you see how your comunity grows up)
thanks

While I can't speak for others, since I'm new to the XSI community, I can say that I welcome the new tide of Maya users to XSI. There is a big difference between people who are completly new to 3D asking questions that are in the first 100 pages of the manual, and an experienced user from another platform that needs to get work done asking the questions.
