I just received cinema 4dr8 and I have to say that the new features and interface are excellent. I have a problem with the dino tail tutorial.
Whe I use the bone tool and then try to move it with the move tool the bone jumps on a different position than the one that is on the bone tool.So the result is that if I build the bone position on the move tool when I swith on the bone tool the bones are in a very different position. What am I doing wrong. I guess it's a pretty easy problem to solve but my knowledge on bones is very limited.

don't use the move tool... just use the bone tool to move bones around. once you have them in place using the bone tool, move them into the object you want to deform (or into a null that the object you want to deform is in) and fix them in place by right clicking the lowest bone in the heirarchy and selecting Fix bones.

You can gt into real trouble if you use anything otehr than the bones tool with bones... other than taht, the other thing yo must always do is make sure the bones aren't activated till you've fixed them (i.e. no green ticks next to them in the object manager till you've fixed them) once you fix them they'll automatically became active.

Hope that this helps, just make sure you go through the tutorials step by step, careful not to jump ahead or miss out any steps.

Thanks for your answer but my problem is also when I buid the bones. If I use the move tool and press control to make a new bone I get a new bone that I can perfectly maipulate. If I use the bone tool to build another bone with the control key it's like the bone gets stuck with the other and i have to make a second click to fully expand the other bone which is infuriating. That's why I use the move tool also.I'll try your suggestions and see what comes uo.

What I do is I always right click on the root bone and fix it every time I have to switch to move tool and back. I am sure it is not the right way , but it works for me. Otherwise , I have the same problems you mentioned
cheers

elaborate on get's stuck.... the bone tool means you ctrl click wherever you want the end of teh bone to be (i.e. unlike in r7 where you have a bone then you CTRL clicked on teh tip of the bone and dragged out, in r8 you click anywhere in the scene and a bone it created linking from teh previous bone to where you clicked... and the bone tool means that if you move a point in the heirarchy (on any of the bones) the other bones move ith it, so you don't get bones taht have got seperated for no good reason.

maybe if you elaborate on your exact mothodology, and explain exactly what it is you really want it to do... you can still use the old r7 method by the way... just don't use the bone tool, and ctrl click on teh end of the bone to blring out a new bone... anyhow, hope that this is of some use to you. i'm still a little unsure about what it is that you're after.
