so far I know I am buying a 7800 gt because I am a computer gamer. What I want to know is how to make this rig a great 3d modeller. 2 gigs of ram? AMD x2 ?

An X2 with 2 gigs should do you nicely. Just recently purchased an X2 4200+, 2 gig OCZ Platinum EL ram, 7800GTX etc... and am quite happy with it. It's fast and so far very stable.

An X2 with 2gb would definitely be an excellent choice.
