To start with, you got the most terrible nebulae sample images!
Try this ones which are far better:
http://heritage.stsci.edu/2005/12b/big.html
http://heritage.stsci.edu/2002/12/big.html
http://heritage.stsci.edu/2003/20/big.html
http://heritage.stsci.edu/2004/22/big.html
http://heritage.stsci.edu/2003/06/big.html

To achieve the nebulae look, maybe you should play around with Pyrocluster or maybe better StromTracer if you have any of them.
Perhaps the best way is to start modeling a falt surface, and them cover this with a volumetric layer using pyro or storm.

Cheers
Luis

Check on Maxon`s website, there`s a tutorial howto create a Nebula, created in c4d vs 7 though, should get you started...

check this link to see how the pros from Americam Museum of Natural History do it http://vis.sdsc.edu/research/images/orion/cave10_l.jpg

I know this won´t be of great help, but its interesting to see how they did it.

hi,

here you are after 15 minutes. i created 2 planes.

2 materials with 2 'Layers' of noise in the luminance channel and glow.

I think you need a center of interest (off center of course)
Maybe a light at 40% brightness in a light green?

Nigel,
no need be so Kiasu one, hor. Try not to fill out the entire picture with colour.
Better put in some undefined structure or some mountains and show it from the side, so that later there will be some black space left.

The tutorial from Maxon works very well I think.

Based on this tutorial I created this picture. When adding displacement and bump to the colorplanes you'll get the 3D effect for the nebula.

hi,

how about this http://media.thelim.com/test/neb7.jpg

i added a starfied on the background and 2 other planes with noise and alpha as the green glowing smoke.

C&C please.

hi juergen,
i tried the maxon the maxon tutorial but seems that it uses SLA2.5 some of the textures when opened and rendered in c4DR9 do not show the different color clouds. i am a bit confused. can advise? the noises are all different.

Hi Nigel,

i tried the maxon the maxon tutorial but seems that it uses SLA2.5 some of the textures when opened and rendered in c4DR9 do not show the different color clouds. i am a bit confused. can advise? the noises are all different.

at first I tried to use the Maxon scene, but since most of the SLAs would not work correct in 9.1, I recreated the materials based on the tutorial.

I attach a sample so you can use this as a start for your nebula. If you like to create strange forms for parts of or distant nebula, use an alpha map and multiply it in a fusion channel to the masks of the nebula parts wich should be the base channel.

thanks again.

hi,

i taken some of jeurgen's file and modify the noises and added another alpha layer with turbluence. and i combine it with neb7.jpg and this is what i get http://media.thelim.com/test/neb8.jpg

Thanks to all for your kind sharing and advises and esp to jeurgen for his expert help.

cheers
