View Full Version : Lamborghini Diablo
Commander Falk 11-15-2002, 10:28 PM Hi ! This is my first post here !
I'm french and blah so don't care if what I say is strange etc etc and please excuse it ! (Y'a beaucoup de francophones ici juste pour savoir ?)
So here's a Diablo :buttrock: , a custom model made by a swiss lamborghini dealer, this is my favourite car all time so one afternoon I started it... I took the time to do it (but I REALLY took the time), but I 'm quite proud of it.
I've just started the interior (a simple interior, just to avoid having black glasses), and I'm still trying to get the best render.
Hope you'll like it !
If you have sugestions for rendering, or anything else...
I do it with max then rendered it with brazil.
(Here's a link if you want to see the real car : http://www.lambocars.com/diablo/affolt2i.htm )

Very nice! Im jealous that you can do this in one day!
I cant tell you how to fix your render, but I can tell you that I agree with you in saying that it needs work. (lots of help huh?)
Looks great!

Erg... I'm not sure to catch the humor of your post or not
Of course I didn't did it in one day, but as it's not finished, it's still a wip...
ABout the render, well, I've done a lot of test, some were not so bad, this one is the one which has my prefered shade (dark green, light green etc...), and this render had no aenvironnement, just a sphere with a B&W gradient, that's why I don't like it that much. I have to put the car on a park or in a garage... It should be better.
Of course, I won't be happy with it as long as their will be black windows and black lights and ugly turn lights... But I'm working on it (wow, I'm really not motivated in doing the lights... I don't know why...)

If you're wondering about to render I think he should crank up the GI sampling. Other than that the car looks I don't like the color and but hey its your car.

looks good the texture needs some tweeking but its not bad so far

Hmmm... What do "crank up" mean ? It's not in my dictionnary... :p
About the color, I was sure this clor would not fit with everybody (mmh... not sure of my sentence), but I regularly change, I think it depends on planets and stars positions, ot things like that...
And of course lambo's color is yellow, si I think I'll do it in yellow when it'll be the final renders.

Mmh, what do you think of those two renders ?
Is it better than the green one ?

the top yellow one looks much better ;)
however, don't make the rims yellow, change it back to that chrome/silver color.. looks much better that way :)
just an suggestion

I like a model and rendering, i want to render my car to be like this but i use Maya. Maya doesn't have Brazil...
About color I prefer a first yellow one, i think Lamborghini Diablo should be yellow.
Keep working!

I'm asking myself a question.
I've take a look at finished works, and there's a beautiful McLaren F1, also a Ferrari F12000 and some other amazing cars.
In fact I started this Diablo :buttrock: in february 2001, a while ago, and I did it very slowly, cuz' I didn't wanted to be bored with it or to modelise it too fast and miss some details or anything else...
I'd like to know what you think of the model itself, cuz' I 've reeeaaaly take the time to do it, and I don't want "to fart higher than my ass" (it's a familiar expression in french, don't know if there's an english equivalent), but I don't think I could do it better, and I don't see how I could do it better, except re-doing windows joints, sharpening some corners, and a few details like doors handles.
I'd would like you to be very perfectionnist and tell me your opinion about that, cuz' I want the part of the body to be perfect. And I 'd like the final render to be like the McLaren one. (If Spinnner (the guy who did the McLaren) reads this, give me some render tricks ! :applause: )
I also have another question :
Do you think I should use an environnement in the render, to have reflects of houses and things like that on the car, or simply work with a gradient sphere or something like that ?
Cuz' I find it really hard to get a realistic shader only with a sphere (I like the green render, but I think there's not enough reflexion, as there is on the yellow).
viper11885 -> those colors are the official ones, the green one normally also has the middle of the rims painted in green.
Last time I rendered it in yellow with chromed wheels, it lookes... ugly... But this wa the whole render... If I succeed in fiding the good shader and everything, I'll do lot of renders, and everybody will find the Diablo of his dream...
Hellrender - > In fact, I had no problems to understand what you said, but I just didn't understand what was your request. This is the word "cours d'instruction" that I'm not sure about. You mean a tutorial ? If so, you "can" use the word tutorial, even if it doesn't exist in french, everybody use it (at least everybody who's got some work or hobby related to CG images use it).
If you mean a tutorial about my Diablo, why not ! Just specify a bit more your request. But the car is all made with edit mesh, after it's only a question of patience... And a few tricks, like chamfering edges if you need a sharp edge and things like that.
If you want help with Brazil, well I actually think I don't master it, but I can tell you what I know.
dogboy -> check out the McLaren I'm talking about (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=23001) if you don't already chech out, it's got 4 stars in the finished work section. He modelised it with max, but rendered it with mentalRay and Vray. The first render (mental ray) is amazing, and MR is available for maya.
Wow... I've written a lot...

Hi Commander Falk,
Very nice :) I like the yellow version, although the background/ floor is too bright. Try darkening the floor to make the car sit nicer in the scene. Most of my scenes tend to have only one light source, usually a spot light and generally casting from the side top, this gives a range of shade over the car. It would be nice to see the camera nearer the ground and at human eye level. And finally, something I very rarely do myself is put the car in a scene, even if it is not complete, I find that you can much easily see things that are wrong.
I hope this helps :)
Keep up the good work and cant wait to see it finished =)

that model looks good to me
Commander Falk
11-30-2002, 11:29 PM
M'kay Spinnner, I'll try some render with your advices.
I'll try darkening the ground, but the main problem I have with a dark ground is that the body's material reflects the ground, and if it's dark the yellow, for example, looks ugly, like yellow/gray or yellow/brown... But that must be me who don't do it well...
But for now I'm sick of test render length, so I'm doing a Land Raider... :buttrock:
The Diablo simple interior is not far from finish, so I'll test it soon.
In your McLaren topic, you say it takes you 20-30 minutes for a 800*600 render. What's your hardware ? Or maybe it's brazzil with GI and everything which is very slow ? Cuz it takes me 10 minutes for a 320*240 render, and 30 minutes for a 640*480, with bad quality. It takes 2 hours  for a 640*480 render with high quality ! My pc is an AMD 1.4Ghz...

AHHHHH, nice to see a Diablo lover on here. :buttrock:
Props to ya brother!!! I am a HUGE fan of Diablos, and that to me looks like the ohh so rare Diablo SV Evolution by Affolter Garage. Beautifull, you've made it to almost exact shape, such a nice car, can you make any 1024 x 768 renders or greater for me? The BABY BLUE version of them are the sexiest. Good job, and keep up the amazing work!!!!!!!
Do you have or know anyone who has made a Diablo SE30 / SE30 Jota??? My favorite in the Diablo category hence my nickname :) if so email me as soon as you can or ICQ me.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRGGGHHH !!!
Had write all the answer and everything was blown away when I clicked on I-don't-know-what...
It takes already so much time to me to write in english... Boohoohoo...
Let's start allover...
So..
Aaaaaaaaaaahhh !!!
Another Diablo fan ! :xtreme:
The Diablo is quite old now, and the fans quite rare... But true fans are forever !!! :buttrock: Ahem, sorry...
Sorry, I had no connexion for a few days...
thanks for the nice comments !
You're right, this is the SV made by Affolter garage (mmh, the garage is 50kms far from my home... :p ), and my favourite amongst all other Diablo, and all other cars...
So...
A 1024x768 render... A 1024x768 RENDER ?!?! Urgh !
The only problem is that I render it with Brazil, and it takes about 10 minutes for a 320x260 one, about 30 for a 640x480, and the biggest I've done is 800x600... (I also think I don't know how to use Brazil perfectly... :p )
Well, I'll see what I can do. Anyway, I have to practice guitar :airguitar so this is not a problem if I leave my computer for a day...
But maybe I'll wait a bit, cuz' I started the interior. Most of it is done (even if it need maps to be perfect), the interior of doors still lacks. This avoid the black window style, which is good.
What's exactly baby blue ? A clear blue ? Like the affolter roadster on lambocars.com if you see which one I mean ?
And about a CG Jota, sorry, most of the CG Diablo i've seen are the basic old yellox VT...
But what's that e-mail ? Heretic !!! Hey, Jota@hotmail.com was alredy used I guess ?

Hehehe, your welcome, you deserve all the comments man, such a beautiful piece of art. 50 KM away from you? WHOA LUCKY YOU!!!!!!!! :buttrock: and YES your right, true Diablo fans are forever  I chose f50_gt1@hotmail.com because of Ferrari F50 GT1 being my favorite race car, only if FIA let them, damn stupid FIA pissing me off. F50 GT1 best car ever built in my opinion for race. But anyways, road versian would be F50 If I had the money for it, and Diablo SE30 Jota :p That car is just simply gorgeous. The baby blue I am talking about is the same blue on the Affolter Diablo as that one in lambocars.com yes, the roadster, isnt it beautifull, when I first saw that real one, then I saw yours, I had to have a background pic of it in baby blue :buttrock: because its simply..... BEAUTIFULL!!!!!!!

Others see these cars as just cars, to me, each one is hand made built, time spent, and a piece of ART. Something you must take care of, baby her  Well, its nice to know you've got that car, and that its your favorite car I believe you said, good :buttrock: Let me know if you can get me that render, I dont mean you any trouble, please contact me, email me at f50_gt1@hotmail.com I would love to talk to you in private about your model, til then, take care  and keep up the astonishing work :buttrock:  :buttrock:

ahhh, i can see you spent your time very well, the model is very accurate and i love it, i too am a diablo fan (and countach and murcielago) and can tell that this is one of the best cg diablo's ive seen,
did you made this using blueprints or did you just used pics cuz i saw some blueprints on the net where the scale of the car is way off, anyways, keep it up man,....

Hu hu ! Some activity on my thread ! :applause: :buttrock:
So here are 2 new pictures.
What do you think of it ? Cuz' I don't know what to think of it... :p
I changed only one parameter (the reflection of the brazil car material, inspired by the link you've given Garyturner, thx, I still have to read it more deeply, even if it's for Maya, and I use Max), and it gives me more shades, like a pearlescent paint or something like that.
I also have to change those black frontlights, it totally change the car design, and it should not.
Here's a yellow one, and also a baby blue one (argh ! The lambocars site is down just when I need it).
http://perso.wanadoo.fr/fwdd/diablo87.jpg
http://perso.wanadoo.fr/fwdd/diablo88.jpg
Mmh... I have to fix that deformation near the indicator... :wip:
>>Sabaman : I use no blueprints, first the reason is that when I started this car, I diddn't knew car plans are called "blueprints" , so I was searching the net for "diablo plans" or something like that, and never found anything...
I recently found some blueprints of the basic diablo on suurland.com, but as you said, it looks strange, the diablo almost looks like an off-road car on those blueprints, and I prefer car grazing the ground on 20" inches wheels... :xtreme:
So I manages to find a side pic, a top pic and a front pic, tu simulate some bad blueprints.
This just take more time, and is a bit less accurate.
Edit : I also did this render at a human eye level, as Pinnner said in the previous page.

Hey those are nice renders, the new ones are gorgeous, thanks for the baby blue one, sooo nice (my background) :) The baby blue suppost to be a bit more blue to it, and the grey ground is giving it a green look near the front left corner, and around front left wheel (housing) of the car. Not bad though, it would be better on a white ground to show off its color, but even more gorgeous in a scene, very nice though, only if I can get a render of my Diablo 6.0 up on here but image size is too big, but anyways good job, im guessing the interior of the door just needs to be finished, looks nice :buttrock: nice work and keep it up.

Yup', I think I know where the green effect comes from.
I use the car paint material from brazil and there's a lot of parameters that I don't really know what it's made for.
I also think I have to add some weight on some vertex. I did it a while ago but had some probs with meshsmooth, so I have to do it again.
And I still have to do realistic lights... Argh !

Do somebody knows a font which looks like the lamborghini one ?
I need it to write the name at the back of the car :D
The final renders are coming along wery well.
I still did a lot of it, trying some different environments, and I'm finally happy with it.
I also forgot to activate the shadows of the last renders I think, I don't know why  but it's way better with shdows !
I finally found enough courage to do the back lights, well, in fact it was not so hard, it took me a quarter of hour to get something looking good ! That's good when you've not to try lot of things before getting what you want ! I hope this will be the same for the front lights... Still some work on the interior, and maybe I finally will create a Diablo thread in the finished work section !
I dream of this day !
