Not real sure on this one... maybe a raytrace material and experimenting w/ gradient ramp and falloff?? Never done this before, but might be a good place to start. And even if you did have a scanner, don't bother trying to scan the cd... it won't work  :p

Hmm, well one thing is for sure. You need to make a color map and a bump map with long lines. I bet you could do most of this in PS, there lots of CD tuts for PS.

a tricky one....haven't tried it in max cos theres a superb shader for this in maya....but i think falloff with some rainbow type gradient in the slots may help you...the problem comes that the rainbow is generated from the angle between the light-object-camera falloff only supports object-camera....perhaps fiddling with a falloff inside the refraction slot and raytracing would produce a good enought fake mask to allow the gradient to work, but i reckon your onto a whole world of fiddling....

this is all assuming that it needs to move, if it dont then just fake it with a texture map and a bit of reflection ;)

Why are you making this CD?

its for an animation.. i need it... i want it to look like the cd is moving in a player * ( anotha thing im kinda new to 3dmax... it would help if u can be more specific.. but if u cant thats cool too.. ill figure it out thanks :) ...)

I got no clue if you already fixed the thing but here is a scan I made of a disc I don't know if the quality is good enough. PM if you nedd bigger res and I mail it to you. Or I try to make new scan

Thats the most obvious option, but as you can see, when you scan a reflective/refractive surface such as a CD, you get weird scanlines.

Phew, well after some murderous searching through my never-ending list of favourite photoshop tutorials, I finally came across this tutorial, I thought you'd want to take it :buttrock:

If you change the colour to a goldish-yellow or a light silver, you'll get the generic CD look. If you want it to be a CD-R, use either the Blue shown in the tutorial or light green.
