View Full Version : please help me texture this 'bull' ..

Hi everyone,
well,i'm working on a funny bull character and
here's what I came up with the modeling up to now

.... still needs a lot of modeling work , but my question is about the texturing ...i'm using 3ds max 7..
I'm having a fight with UVW's !
as you can see this character is kinda smooth and organic, what do advice me to do with it's texturing ? can u explain to me what do I have to do to texture it perfectly, in this pic you see I did some texturing ,but it's only using a plannar map (mapped to the side of the bull)..so it's clear that on his back above the head, the map stretches a lot,and it doesnt look good at all, but if I did several maps for each body part...how can I get rid of the obvious seams between them ?
tell me what do u think,and if you have some links to some good tutorials \tips about uvw mapping for organic characters i'd appreciate it, i found some but they werent so helpful...

I think he looks really cool! I also am in need of some texturing help in max 7. I have learned to rig characters now somehwat decent, and need to learn how to UVW map and unwrap correctly so i can map my other character i made, then get her rigged up.

thanks mate,
its interesting to know that you've learned rigging before going into texturing,do u use any preset rig (biped,CAT..) or max bones ?
i'm still waiting for some help, and i'm wondering why there is not much replies till now,:)
post something guys... what are your suggestions about texturing this bull ?

hey,

well what i do is use the bone tools, and make each bone that i need, and name them. just add some IK handles, then use some control shapes and link and wire sometimes to the bones. Then i need to setup up custom attributes to the hands and feet to make finger curls and feet rolls. Then i apply the skin modifier to my mesh, and just start working on the deformations. I setup many differnet poses in a animation so i can run the animation and see if my skin weighting is working or not. Im still very very new to rigging, but im starting to get it :). I some what know how to uvw map, but not really.

Hi

I am having the same problem you have.
I think you will have to unrwap the mesh and paint it on photoshop, though i have never tried it my self.
If you are using max 8 there is a tool that will do it for you, i have heard.

The way i do it is keep my work simple.
If you are going to animate it no need to map each poli.

Model it, rig it and animate it

Just keep it simple.
