Does anyone have any advice or suggestions for modeling a pile of rocks? I would like to create a ring of rocks like you'd see around a campfire. I've tried with a few failed attempts.

I'm using Maya 5

Thanks.

- Create a cube
- Smooth it twice
- Use sculpt poly tools (edit polygons > sculpt poly tool > options box)
- Change the opacity to something less (around 10-40%) and make sure its set to 'pull'
- Sculpt the cube until it looks like a rock.
- Change the options on the sculpt poly to smooth and smooth out some of the rough spots on the rock
its pretty simple that way, and the UVs will be pretty easy to lay out

There is a script on highend3d that generates rocks for you. Its called Rockgen.

I've always had really good results sculpting models into a general shape and then running some kind of displacement or jitter on the points. I have yet to try it in Maya though.
