Title: Pinup: Lighting/painting Practice
Name: Gary Lai
Country: Canada
Software: Painter, Photoshop

It's been a long, long while since I've sat down and put some effort into a picture. This image was basically just for practice and fun, and I was somewhat pleased with the outcome so I thought I'd share it. I wanted to work on my painting and lighting, and I'm sure some of it is off, as I still have a long way to go. The drawing and colors were done in painter, and then I took it into photoshop to adjust the colors a bit and add the drop shadow to separate her from the background a bit. I spent maybe 4 hours on this image, no references were used. As far as I'm concerned, the image is finished as I want to focus on just the character and not a background or setting.

A link to the drawing as it came out from painter can be found here Link (http://members.shaw.ca/gary_lai/images/sketch051025.jpg)

Comments and critiques are welcome :) I already see one thing though - her left arm is a bit short.

Thanks for looking!

Dang. That's... good. I don't see any problem with her arm length.
A) She's got her shoulder hiked up
B) Wrist hits right about the top of the crotch. It's kinda weird to talk about it, heh, but I tend to think of it as "arms are just long enough to hide yourself if you ever lose your pants," lol.

I see this style a lot, and I'd really like to know how to get this effect in my own work. :D

the hair is beautiful.
the lighting on her skin is a bit to much for my taste.
it looks like she is covered in sun lotion or something.
the pencils are great, especially for not useing reference.
the mat-spots on her left hand make it look like it is unfinished
and her ear is a lil' rough.
face is awesome. the red tint is wonderful.
great sense of color and light...

Really nice work!

The anatomy is spot on and really solid looking - especially around the shoulders and chest.
She kinda reminds me of Lisa from DOA volleyball but with pink hair and lighter skin...

some good crits from proconpictures.

Keep up the good work - hope to see some more ladies from you soon!

i like how sketchy this is it gives it more character than just a painting over the lines you should detail this some more

The picture reminds me of J. Scott Campbell: http://jsc.theanomaly.co.uk/modules/myalbum/photo.php?lid=136

You have potential, in my opinion if your want have fun (a little more) with you draw try to "clean" your line and smooth the colors, i'm sure when you finish them will be a master piece, I bet you like Hyung Tae-Kim work.
