View Full Version : Animation : PANTS Short
Just H 11-15-2002, 02:29 PM Here is a nearly finished version of my short "PANTS". It's a 2 and a half minute story that's in the final stages; a composite of a 3d character in a shopping mall who has a crazy run-in with some pants.
It's my final project for school and right now I'm tweeking out all the little things. At the moment, I'm working on improving the shadows on the dissolving shot, and putting in some reflections on the floor in the final shot.
Time's kinda tight and I only have a week left to improve it, but I would appreciate any suggestions on stuff I could change within that time. This is my first post, but don't hold back, I'd really appreciate any suggestions. Fire at will. Thanks a lot...
UPDATE: Sorry, I've exceded my limit for how much transfer data I am allowed to have on my web host. I've actually doubled it. I could keep this up here, but it would cost me even more than it already has. So I've decided to take it off for now.
If anyone has someplace that you know of that I could transfer it from, like a free hosting place that would give me some space with unlimited download capabilities, that would be cool.
Sorry everybody, H :annoyed:

I say that it is great. The only thing that was really bad was the camera work, soooo shakey. They have video stabalization programs out there that really help for video like that.
Nice job matching the digital camera to the shakey shots.

so many full sailers on this board!!! always good to see fellow brothers :) Here's a bit of full sail history........my final project was the first one to have a CG character interacting with other humans (hands on) in a composite scene. Steve, the compositing teacher had asked me to help him re-write his compositing critera based on my project (the next month they started having actual compositing projects in that class.....) He went to Eric to get it aproved and that was the last i heard of it...... :( oh well whatcha gonna do.
Now onto the project at hand.....pants is great!!!! Only prob i had with it, was some of the cuts lasted a little too long, there could have been less cuts of people admiring the pants......overall it is beautifully done!!!! Animation looks great, compositing is flawless......even the grain looks really good! Nice work!! Mad props to you!!! Did you actually track all of that in Maya Live????????? If you get a chance check out Icarus!!! It is an awesome 3d track system and its free for non-comercial use!
http://aig.cs.man.ac.uk/icarus/
we are planning on using it for some fx shots for a movie we are going to be working on soon.
I'm still blown away by this program..........why is it that there are things like Realviz Matchmover Pro, for $5000 out there......and Icarus is just as good, but since it was developed by a university and not a big coorporation, its 1000 (it even includes a panarama maker, lens distortion correction, and image based modeling!!!)
Keep up the good work, cant wait to see your next project.
Happy Rendering!!!!!
That was just awesome. Great compositing, ggreat animating. Overall, just awesome!! :buttrock:

Nice job H, that follows your storyboards perfectly, and you did a great job making that character believable. I love the music and I can't wait to see the final on DVD.
The thing that caught my eye was the mirror shot, I think some imperfections and marks in the mirror would make it more realistic, but I know you are still working on it.
later:)

Thanks a lot for all the comments!!! Wow. I'm glad you all like it. I've recieved a couple of comments on the mirror, so I will definately fix that, and any other comments you want to send would be great.
The most exciting thing is that you think it's funny. When I storyboarded it, the idea was funny, but after looking at it for so long, I was kindof wondering if it actually was. You guys really confirmed that for me. Thanks a lot.
As for any other suggestions, keep them coming. They really help. Animation, Timing, Compositing... whatever you can spot, I'm ready.

Incredible work.
You may want to improve the expiry date ticket closeup, make it look more real, maybe print it out and shoot with cam and composit in so the whole shot don't look CGI. Vary the angle on the second closeup so it's not just a repeat shot.
I'd shorten the black pause after "Act I", seems too long.
The reaction of the painter guy seems vague, I think it's the sound, give him a more distinct grunt or something.
If any of this turns out to be a lot of work, don't waste time on it, these are minor points.
Nothing else I can think of. Thanks for sharing, you've helped me in my own project with this. Keep up the great work!

Thanks a lot Cableguy...
those are great points, I'll make sure to change what I can. I really appreciate it.
...::: Does anybody know any web sites I could post this for unlimited download? If you do, please contact me or post it here. I would really like to put this back up. Thanks. H:::...
