I thought they fixed cel-shading in Max5.....

sorry..but I am not too sure what you mean...
I didn't do too much material tweaking in this render..
pretty much default on everything.

I think its an excelent piece of work, I havent seen the robot before and its a great design (if a little traditional) and well built too. I think the Shader seams to work great! It colours are flat but thats a style all in itself, it has a great sketch and block colour look to it.

Good job :D

thanks..
this robot was going to be in my animation : WarGiant..
and this cell shaded render was just to see what Cell Shading in max 5 are like. came out better than I expected...
hehehe...
got it by mistake.
and yeah... I always try yo design my own robot. it is easier
:p

Nice! the color need some tweaking though. Are you using straight max or using cartoon reyes or such?

wgreenlee1- i think you are just talking about the crappy jpeg compression. Its not the renderer. I see alot of veeery large compression artifacts everywhere. Good toonshading though. Fits in nicely. But maybe you might want to try giving it 3 or 4 color gradient instead of 2 (just to see what it looks like)
I used 2 on mine too.

Check out my toonshade here (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=28642)

Love it but we need a better render and maybe a scene.

I like the model. The hands (fingers) might me a bit flimsy compared to the size of his arms, but it looks great other than that.

I think the lines are be a bit too fat, not sure what options you have in max5 to control that. Also, if you could add some sharp object shadows, it might help give the robot a bit more definition (while keeping the graphic style).

Since there is only a few colors used, post the image as a ".gif" instead of a ".jpeg". You won't get that bad blurring.

I don't think it can be considered "cell-shaded either" because there is no shading on it.

thanks guys or gals for all the input.
Frye : yeah..I agree, but I always render my into jpg...I will try to do gif next time,
Marc : yeah...agree...finger does looks a bit filmsy...but I always
have trouble making fingers working niceliy into my robots.
like I said previously, I was just using the ink & paint material default setting for to see what it can do. I still have to give it a proper materl . :)

Diffused : I think you are right, just that cgtalk's size limits is so small, I have to compress quite a bit.

Kryptochan : I used Ink & Paint material comes with Max 5 as default. and I used default settings. didn't do much tweaking
:p

Glitchwolf :
this is going to be in my animation WarGiant... and nope..it is not
cell shaded animation. I still have to give it proper textures and materials.
