View Full Version : Quick help with Xbox 360

Hey guys, well I have been working on this for like 10 mins and I dont know how to fix some of the rough areas I circled in red. I have 2 images of the problems and 1 wire frame. I want to go to the art institute of Colorado and they said I need a portfolio, so I want to do some fun little things. I'm kinda stuck so any help would be VERY helpful, thanks guys.
(by the way this image is not welded, its just got a symmitry modifier on it, thanks)

If this is for your portfolio I would suggest you spend more than 10 minutes on it ;)
Seems to me like there are quite a few extra (and strangly placed) polies in there that arent doing anything for your finished model.

lol, I know I need to spend more time on it, I'm just going to see if i can do a basic xbox. Im not that good at it 3ds and I dont have to be I just have to have a couple of peaces that show that I actaully am interested and that I want to persue a career. I went back over it and I did find that there were extra verts screwing it up, thanks for your help

AI doesn't require a portfolio. Is it for some type of scholarship or something along those lines?

Did you use a mesh smoothed low poly version to create this version? If that's the case, the geometry in the low poly version isn't completely corect and why you are getting some funky polys here and there. Can we see the low poly version if that was the case?

I went to the AI of Pittsburgh, and they looked for a portfolio that was drawing and basic art skills really. A lot of people dont have access to 3d software so I dont think they really expect it for a entry portfolio.

Hey guys, thanks for all the replys. as for AI, I'm not really sure if they need a portfolio, but Colorado state university, said that they wanted a portfolio, so I'm not sure if AI does. Its not for a scholorship, but If someday it gets me one it would be cool. I dont Think its a low poly model (heres a wire), but i overlapped some pollys up. Heres an update of my model, There are still a couple errors down at the bottom. any suggestions for now or for when i model the holes for the vents??. Thanks for your time

Would you post some images of the low poly version (smooth and wire) to give us a better idea of your base geometry? It will be easier to see what is causing the issues you are having at the bottom. It looks like you have a low poly model with meshsmooth or nurms on it.

Hey, here is a model with out nurb smoothing on as well as updated pics. I still have some troubled areas I cant fix on the bottom front, you will be able to see. Crits welcomed/needed. Thanks guys

is that oval shaped object at the bottom part of the same mesh, or is it a sepereate object?
if it's part of the same object, i'm sure all of those edges are causing problems. Just go through and make sure EVERYTHING is 4-sided...also, try selecting all the verticies of the xbox and do a weld with a low value to make sure there aren't some unwelded verts. that case cause alot of issues. I would also put in another edgeloop how I have drawn in below
it might just be that your mesh smooth is trying to smooth to broad of an area down there, and that extra edge loop will controll it a little bit better. you'd obviously have to get rid of those tris, but you get that idea. Maybe try that stuff and see how it turns out.

Hey sorry its taken so long but here is an update with the holes on the top. are they still to big? I still cannot get the drives on the front to work, the errors i get around the drives are show above. they always end up flat and not round and mess upmy mesh. Any help or tutorials on this would help very much. I also would really like help on a glowing green light for the button, right now i'm using just a green paint, but I plan on making the button transparent and having a green omni light behind it. I have no clue how to make the omni light glow so help or tutorials on this would be very helpful as well. Comments and Crits are very needed. Thanks a bunch

It would be more considerate to keep this in the same thread, I'm not sure that holes in the top merit an entirely new one.
