This may sound like a silly question, but how do you do those nice looking clay renders? If anyone could tell me I'd be very grateful.

I think you are talking about the Light Tracer. Place a skylight anywhere in your scene with no other lights. Open render dialog and click the 'Advanced Lighting' tab. Drop down the list and choose 'Light Tracer' then render.
