Title: Saab 99 Turbo
Name: Marcus Rörstad
Country: Sweden
Software: Maya, Photoshop
This is a Saab 99 from the earlys 80's. I have worked with it from now and then for about a month. I didn't have any blueprints since there were no available ...or perhaps it was just my lack of interest to find any on the web - prove me wrong ;)
It's made in Maya 6.5 and the textures are mostly taken from animax.it and edited in Photoshop. The bg are made from two image planes.
Some C&C are appreciated...

Marcus.
Wasn't the 99 replaced by the 900 in 1979-1980? The 99 is more the iconic SAAB of the of 1970s anyway, unless they kept making them there in Sweden but stopped exporting them. I miss my old 900 SPG! But I digress.
As for your model, I think you need to post another orthographic view, because the front end doesn't look right to me. It looks too square, the bumber should project more and the grill looks a bit odd. The protruding front turning lights of the 99 don't look quite right either. The last thing is the windshield, perhaps it is the angle but it looks flat where it should be very curved, the 99 and 900's aerodynamics demanded it.
It looks like a great start, because it does look like a 99. Search on google for some images and compare your model from the same angles, I think a few tweaks and you will have it.

PS can you model the soccer ball wheels, they were the cool ones from SAAB. :)

oh, have we got a saab enthusiast here? To me it sure sounds like it - great!
As for your question about the production years of the 99, you're definetly right it was the model of the 70's. However the Saab 99 was produced until -84, and I focused on of the last models, ended up being the coolest ones if you ask me.
Now to the critique. I don't know how a render would turn out from a different view, considering I modelled the scene based on this view. On the other hand I can post one with only the car in it.
The Windshield should be accurate. You're right about the turning lights, they aren't correct. As for the bumper and the grill, I'll get back to you with it as soon as I have checked it out.
Thanx for the comments mate, sure appreciate it!
ps. actually I started out modelling those rims, but got tired of them and made these non-saabish wheels instead. Busted! hehe...

Hehe.. I drive a red SAAB - however a bit newer :)
The proportions are a bit strange. The front looks streched (vertically)

Ok, so now I have changed the shape of the turning lights so that they're more correct. You can see how the shape is bended so it follows the front of the car. Also the car was a little bit incorrect with it's proportions, thanks for noticing, bazze! It has now been stretched out horizontally.
I must take the opportunity to say how glad I am to see some Saab people here! :)

I might as well post this final render while I'm at it.

I think that front bumper is too short here.
In real car the bumper is about two times longer.
