View Full Version : Paint Curves
kpalazov 11-15-2002, 09:58 AM Hi Every one ,
I wanted to ask if it is possible to paint curves onto surfaces. I know paint effects does something like what I am talking about , but I wanted to know if it can be achieved as a seperate tool.
If possible I would really appricate an example.
I am trying to emulate the work flow of Cyclise.
thanks for your help

you can in maya 4.5 and i'm pretty sure in previous ones too. In the NURBS shelf it's the button right next to the ep curve tool. Think it's called pencil curve or something similar. Don't forget you have to make your surface live first.

The problem I have with that method is that it is very inacurate.Plus I am not able to paint it only place points on the mesh.By the way I am working with polies. My goal is to paint curves onto a surface in the form of mesh topology layout. Intesrsect the curves and create surfaces in the enclosed areas. If there is a way to increase accuracy or another method of doing it I would really appriciate an help.
Thanks for your reply

to draw curves on a surface like a box or so then just select the box and then go to Modify->Make Live and then start making curves one it, and when your done then go press the Make Not Live in the Modify menu
Hope that helps :)

Understood mate this was the procedure presented a post before yours.I appriacte your answer but after haved tried this it does not seem accurate on high poly surfaces. I don't know if you have used Cyclice before but this is the type of accuracy I amm trying to achive. Sorta where the curve produced attaches it self to the shape exactley.
Basically I'm looking to see if this is possible in maya to this degree of accuracy.
thanks
