How hard or easy would it be to have a can and when the can tips, or gets pushed over to have paint fall out?

I'm really new to maya so any in-depth explaination on how to do it would be great...

yes, that seems like quite the product but any way to do it from within maya? I dont really have 1g to spend on more software.

1. Either use blobbies - lots of them.
2. Or better - use glue3D http://3daliens.com (http://3daliens.com/). Its Maya version is a bit rudimentary, but I have used it with great success in quite a few projects.

alright, that will get me at least thinking about it... although i'm not sure how I will twist that tutorial from water to paint. ( the paint can is going to be standing up then pushed over)

Question 2: my character is going to take this paint and shoot/ throw/spit it at a wall (like an elephants trunk) When he is done I want it to form a painting, so as an example:

this is the painting:

When the character shoots the color red i want it to splat on the wall, same thing with the color blue, splats on the wall in the correct place. Maybe he needs to shoot the red paint 3 or 4 times in order to make the red in the painting above.... any ideas how I would accomplish that?

Easy... when you first open Maya, there is a small red button at the bottom right of the screen. When you click on it, it prompts for an image file, then automatically generates a simulation of an elephant spray painting that image. (Sorry, it must be the weather outside).

Seriously, for the painting elephant part, I would see it simply spraying colored particles at a canvas on which you would animate the different steps of completion (multiple images, which you will need to manually create).

lol well I spent a long long time looking for the button (must only be in your ver.) hahah...

No really now... can anyone go into more detail about spraying colored particles? Also what do you mean by "animate the different steps of completion (multiple images, which you will need to manually create).

Honestly... I don't think this is an easy effect. Take a look at this thread ( http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=288231 ) about mapping particles golaPP using a texture (one for each color), then you could use the same texture to multuply with your particles lifespann (so the particles that does't have a goal just dies). I don't really know if it would work, but it would be my first try...
