i am modelling some low poly models in 3D MAX for a potential job at games company and one of the rules in the models is:

"No textures - Flat colours only. No blending of colours across a polygon, although you can use soft/hard shading"

how do i do this soft/hard shading? one of my friends that uses maya uses hard/soft normals to make objects look smoother but not affecting/changing the amount of polys! how is this done in max?

I believe what you are looking for is smoothing groups. You select the faces that you want to be smooth with each other and give them the same smoothing group. If you want a hard edge, make sure that the faces that touch have different smoothing groups. I personally like Maya's approach better.

yeah found smoothing groups in 3d max help, the rule for my modeling was "No blending of colours across a polygon" and this looks like colours or blending across?
