hi I want to animate a tank tread along a path. I've seen a few tutorials on the web for this but they are fairly basic. This forum is rigging for characters and I didn't know where to post this. Ok my problem is this. If I am going to animate along a path I want the connectors between treads to rotate according to the connection between the different treads. Its hard to explain I made a quick sketch to show what I mean.

the treads are linked by that small piece on the side like a chain when the treads rotate along the path I want the areas that are linked to follow the tread they are linked to.

I don't know if you found this tutorial, or if you are using max, but it might be helpful.

I created a fairly nice track following this tutorial just now. The connectors could probably just be attached to the treads. I just tried a quick and dirty attachment, and while the mesh does deform a little bit, it might work well for what you are trying to do.

You could try this script out if you're doing it in Maya.
