Maybe "sky" can do this with vol clouds but pyro is not too bad

Wowsers! That looks great.

But, I hate to say this...

how were the render times? :hmm:

2 mins 48 secs on a 1.6 ghz AMD and 256 Mb RAM

Wow thats very fast for pyro. Good job.

huh. That is nice!

Did you try cranking the detail to see if you could get different styles, or were you just trying to find something useful and fast for animation?

This was a quick test.. i will do some more work on it to get more detail and variation, it is a bit flat, but from a distance the cloud layer would look like a Cotton wool carpet

I got it down to 1.5 mins a frame for a animation test which is on the boil at the momnet, i will post the results soon, this means that i could really crank up the detail and effect and should have some reasonable renders in say around 5 mins a frame ( which would plumet if i had a decent system !!)

Edit..just shaved off another 15 secs a frame..think i'll go down the pub, get smashed and leave it to render in peace before i totally mess it up !!!

This is looking great! Be sure to keep us posted on the animation and could you share your file?

Perfectly understandable if you want to keep it for yourself. ;-)

A nice effort but honestly, they still don't look like clouds to me. Some problems are that it looks too much like noise and is too uniformly spaced. There is a lack of any feeling of light dispersion happening, making them appear kind of dirty or deadish. I think the other big issue is that the falloff of visibility looks wrong. It should fall off faster so that the edges are sharper.

MJV do you mean the backdrop clouds or the lower pyro clouds ?

Here is a quick animation..not to brilliant but as i have render times at about 1 min 15 i am sure i could improve it and add a min or so to the render..what i will try and do is make a still frame looking as good as i can with the render time being a secondary concern..err and yes the sun is too big i will change tht as well !!

I was talking about the foreground clouds. The background clouds aren't really working at all. Have to admit that the foreground clouds seem much more acceptable in the movie version.

the anim looks nice. The background clouds look a bit strange  and maybe make the sun a smaller. good work

cheers,
Bob

I think i is looking superb! If it renders that fast then who can possibly complain?

I redid the scene using Ozone for the background but there is too much of a spherical movement to the sky now

The reason being that i have used a very wide angle lens on the camera, this gives the correct look for the landscape and cloud layer ( even some horizon bend) but does not work too well with the sky

perhaps i will simply reposition the camera and redo the TG landscape to keep the hugeness but have a longer lens for the camera, I may even try pyro for the sky itself

OK this is the look i have settled with all pyro no ozone, not too brilliant and a bit short but it will do to base the tut on

It looks very good! I'll be anxious to see the tutorial.

Very good!

The camera rotation is a bit jarring--but I do like seeing the mountais from above and the final straight on shot. Clouds look really good..

"I've looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
It's clouds illusions I recall
I really don't know clouds at all"

paulselhi,

Wow that's flippin amazing! I wish I had half your talent! I will be looking forward to your tutorial. Will you be showing us how to animate the clouds too?

Keep up the good work. :buttrock:

one of the beauties of C4D..someone like me with little talent can create a fairly good scene.

It needs the gurus to come and breathe life into it

Hi Paul,

I just found another nice example of Pyro clouds.

http://c4dtreff.de/c4dforum/read.php?f=3&i=216857&t=216857

here the settings:

http://c4dtreff.de/c4dforum/read.php?f=3&i=216881&t=216881

it's in german but easy enough to follow.

thought it might interest you

cheers,
Bob

Thanks Matthias, they looks a bit cartoony and seem to lack depth and detail, they also seem to have a surreal glow to them. As i can't speak german i don't know what look was being striven for, photorealism or cartoon
