I had a simliar problem when I was working on one of my buildings. Some things arnt viewable in all views. I dont know why, the only thign that I got from it was that it needs to have some type of thickness. Other than that I am clueless. I would like to see what others say about it! (the problem only seems to apply to polys that are extruded for me)

Its a good bet that the font shape is not a solid spline object and has some sort of gap or unwelded vertex somewhere, because of this the mesh cannot be properly generated when the extrude (or bevel) modifier is placed on it. This is a fairly common occurance with fonts especially the ones that you find on those free font sites (because these fonts arent properly made up).
To correct this problem go back into the Editable Spline modifier on your stack and look for where the problem lies. Turning on vertex numbers will likely show you exactly what area of the spline needs fixing.

use force-2-side or try flip normal

use shape check in the utility panel, it will point out vertices that need to be closed. then u can join the vertices and have a closed spline, cause thats what ur problem is.

thanx madhatfx that solved it, there were so many overlaping vertices and some non closed lines. problemo solved
