View Full Version : After Effects Crashing on import
Metro-Digital 10-20-2005, 11:42 AM Hi, something strange is happening with after effects. I open it fine, but when I choose file>import and I choose anything from the list the program closes automatically. No error mesage pops up. I am running AE 6.5 on win XP Pro. It has always worked fine. Could it be to do with drivers for the graphics card? I have a geforce 6600GT. Can anyone help. I have a video that needs to be completed asap.
Thanks

Does this happen, when you import via the shortcut?
What fileformat do you try to import? Which color mode? Are the files corrupted?

It doesnt even open the import window. As soon as you click the word "file" from the import flyout, AE closes. Also, as you have finished double clicking in the project window to import a file, it closes. I have a strong feeling it has to do with graphics card, because a friend of mine enabled something in the nvidia settings to make 3d max use the graphics card. Maybe it changed something in AE? I also havnt changed any of my settings that I usually use, so I dont know why its suddenly freaking out.

Ok I've managed to fix the problem. I had enabled a setting in Nvidia Nview Desktop Manager, which when switched off allows AE to work fine. Maybe its a compatibility issue with my gfx card. At least it works now.
Seems I have a similar problem, I also have a 6600GT; I have a dual screen; i have after effects. Everytime I try to import after effects closes on me. I'l like to know how you've solved the problem. Greatly appreciate it if you show me how.
Desperately need help.

Could be an OpenGL error. I've had similar things in the past. Make sure you've got one of the latest drivers for your video card. Sometimes it takes driver juggling to find one that's stable.
Could also be a Quicktime error if you're using QT. I know that 6.5 of QT works just fine in AE 6.5.
