I have a character in this story i am helping create, hes a little blob/glowworm thing. But i have been doing test renders with him and am really unhappy with the glow effects in lightwave. I will admit tho that i don't know exactly all the controls in LW and am unsure of what things like "special buffers do", i have played with it but can't see the difference.

Anyways my question is Does anyone have any tips for useing glow effects?

or would anyone know where i can get a better pluggin that controls glow? I tried flay.com but all the downloads were broken links. 8(

I was thinking mixing luminosity and glow to get the look, but i am just unhappy with the results. And if you asked what it is i don't like i couldn't tell you really, ack. I know i have been happy with glows i did in maya.

if neither of these then maybe somebody knows where i can see a tut on how to run the glow effects current in LW now.

Thanks for any help guys!!!

are you activating the GLOW effect in both of these locations?

and

just want to make sure you know.

:)

just play with your Glow Radius to increase it...

here's a great tutorial anyhoo:

LWs standard glow is pretty limiting (for one, it only allows for glow in the same color as the surface). You WILL have much more control using the Corona plugin amongst the imagefilters in conjunction with special buffers. Corona will lend you a whole bunch of settings for you to play with (color for instance!), and using special buffers as its Input channel you'll be able to limit the effect to a specific surface.

The workings of the special buffers are pretty simple. Special buffer 1 corresponds to slot one in the image/pixel filter list. So if Corona is placed in the very first slot of the image filter list, you set Special buffer 1 to 1.0 (to apply 100% of the effect) for the surface to which you'd like to add the effect. Naturally then, if you had Corona in slot two you would then use special buffer 2 instead.

I know this probably sounds like a dumb question, but what sort of glow are you after. If you can find a pic of how you want it to look, maybe someone here could work out surface settings to get a similar effect.

Here (http://forums.newtek.com/discus/messages/2/16244.html?1020058141) is a good glow (and transparent) effect done entirely in LW; it helped me understand glow surface settings, so see if it helps you. Good luck on getting the effect you're after.

Hum... Those are good examples. I will try the tut there and let you know hehe. As for the type of glow, think of a worm that glows floresent (cantspell) green, like a glow worm or something. In the story its found under a boy's bed so it will be semi dark and i want the worm to glow a little bit and be bright green.. might switch from green to blue tho dunno. Today i am going to rig the worm and after that texture and try to get this glow thing down. so ill prob have more news then

Man that second red/orange pic looks sweet! How did you get that glow underthe surface look?

You might also want to take a look at After Glow. Don't know if it will help with what you want to do, but it couldn't hurt. :)
