FaustoDeMartini 10-19-2005, 07:49 PM Hey there!
I'm slowly working on this new model (slowly because is on my spare time).
The softwares that I'm using is 3DS Max with Brazil, Zbrush and Photoshop. I used Zbrush to add all the details on the head, but all the rest is poligon modeling.
The background and lights are temp.
Hope you guys like it!

This is an older wireframe with the "low poly" head...

Thanks for sharing your model on cgtalk fausto, looks amazing and very inspiring! I really don't have any crits at this point, just wanted to say I'm a big fan of your work.
Just a few questions, this is normal mapped in 3DS Max right? Do you generate your normal map in z-brush or in max? Do you like to unwrap your mesh yourself in max for easier visualisation of the map, and photoshop adjustements? Are you using photoshop or z-brush to do your color map?
Can't wait for your texture updates
cheers

Wow! thats great, I like how you made the top strap deform over the bottom one, and you put the weld bulges on each of the chain links nice attention to detail.
I Like the composition too.
What sort of technique did you use to model this? (box modeling?)
Cannot wait to see this with textures

Thanks a lot for the nice comments guys!! Glad you liked so far.
Now, answering couple of questions:
Blacknull- "this is normal mapped in 3DS Max right?"
I'm not using normal mapping on this one.. as I'm rendering in Brazil and it still doesn't have the support for displacement, I'm using the hi poly mesh from zBrush (I know, it's really really heavy). The reason that I'm doing that it's because I really like Brazil's skin shader and I tested mental ray with Indirect Ilumination+Final Gathering+Displacement+Subsurface scattering and it gets really slow... as I'm doing a still frame, I can have the luxury of having such a heavy mesh in the scene. For animation I would have to use Mental Ray and displacement.
"Do you like to unwrap your mesh yourself in max for easier visualisation of the map, and photoshop adjustements? Are you using photoshop or z-brush to do your color map?"
I unrapped my mesh on Deep UV and exported to zbrush, painted, and when I imported the obj back to max, I still have my coordinates there. I'm using photoshop to paint my textures.
I'm using texporter to extract the uv's from my original low poly head, that has the same coordinates as the hi poly one.
Harshdesign- Thanks a lot man!! I'm really impressed with your work! It's getting better and better!! Keep it up!
qwed88- I'm using box modeling and zbrush for the head.
Jeremybirn- Wow, such an honor for me!! I follow your work from long date and I have your Digital Lighting & Rendering (http://www.3drender.com/) book!! Thanks so much for the nice words!
Leshiy3d- Everything on the shot is geometry... I'm using Brazil Rendering, and it doesn't have displacement in render time yet.
The Ripper- I'm glad you liked!! I'm a huge fan of your works!!
Dareoner- Hey!! Good to see you around here! Thanks for the comments.
cara-rj- Valeu mesmo bro! Fico feliz que vc esteja curtindo.
frameless- Thanks man! I'm working on the textures now. Yes, I'm working at Blizzard still.. it's been awesome so far.
I should post my WIP for the textures yesterday, but I got home pretty tired and I didn't uploded the image. I promisse that tonight I'm posting ok?
Thanks a lot for everybody that is following this thread and posting comments!!!
Very impressive model, the cloth is so detailed. I like the concept as well.

Wow, awesome !!
The detailes and the texture are great.
How you transfer the changes that you done in Zbrush into max ?
When i export the displacement map into max from zbrush the little detailes disapier so when i put the displacement map into bump map the little detailes show up but in addition i see weird lines on the model and what can i do? how you succssed to transfar it so perfactly to max?
Thanks, and again awesome work!!

i'm really interested, how did you handle this huge poly amount without crashing the application?

Great stuff dude. Would be nice if you diseased the gums a bit. Pigs eat crap and his teeth are yellow and gums are nice and pink...somethings wrong!:). Crank up that decay on the gums if you can since the eye is drawn towards the open mouth first.

Hi, Fausto!
I think it is a great texturing start. I agree about the specular, I think is a little bit high but no doubts that is a great work. I am anxious to see the final result. I loved the teeth shader. I think you could add some saliva in his tongue too.
Congrats!

I love this. I like the first of the last two images you posted a LOT more than the second. IMO it looks like you're using a wrong blending mode somewhere in the comp. There are just some funky things happening in the shadows. For eg. the bottom left side of his upper lip.
Keep the updates coming for sure.

Hey there!!
Thanks a lot for the nice comments and sugestions... I like the idea of making the gums more nasty! I will also add a layer of blood on his mouth and later on on his shirt (behind him on the wall would be cool too).
visualboo- thanks a lot! As I mentioned before, I'm working on this problem on the shader... its when you set Brazil skin shader for a high amount of "Intensity", it gets this weird black areas.. the top image has less Intensity, thats the reason that you don't see as much.
Thanks for folowing my work guys!

This is FReakinG awesome work man.. I love the mouth area(translucency of the teeth, the saliva being stretched and the tongue). You have excellent shader skills. If i would suggest anything, i think the chains are looking a little too soft, and the pig's head could have some more color variations, perhaps some more deeper saturated red colors for the cheek and maybe around the mouth area, and if you're feeling shady, maybe even some bruising .
Looking forward to updates, the render is already looking really sweet. Soon to be frontpage material for sure.

I love your last update but I think the skin is too reflective now (I assume u added a falloff map in the reflection slot or used brazil's "oilness" paramater for it) and a bit too pale. I think more saturation and some sharp variations in it could help.
