Hey there. I've finally found a bit of time to start working on stuff before I start my shiny new job. (See: big raise/ more work)

So I'm going through the Joan of Arc tutorial on www.3dtotal.com.
Obviously this is completely unoriginal content and not meant to be for anything other than documenting my journey through the tutorial.

Here's where I'm at so far.

On that last pic, I'm going to really change the face a bit as I'm not too fond of the anime style the author used.

Here's the leg armour. I built a metal material in @3 seconds so it's just temporary.

I also tried to model Joan a few month ago, but i changed a little.
The face was my problem, too. And I try to fix it.

And this tutorial is very good, large amount of pics and explanation on how to model it.

Well keep on modelling it looks good so far.

Had some time to work on it. Need to get faster, which is just a matter of not getting distracted whilst working at home.

Thanx a lot! Yeah, it's not really any kind of acheivement or anything cuz it's all spelled out how to do it. What I am doing is seeing how to put everything together, work flow, that kind of thing. It's all about learning.

here face looks like an alien! other than that, it's real good. :bounce:

Yes, my wife agrees. It's because she's bald, eyes aren't done, and in a "I'm here to take over your pathetic world" kinda pose. I'm done with the clothes and armour and will tackle the eyes and hair very soon. Meanwhile, here's the update with some quick set up. The wrinkles don't show up in the body suit with GI, but they're there.

'nother view. BTW, time spent is around 24hrs total working on this. Much faster than I used to do, but how fast would a pro be able to knock something like this out in?

Hmm, a pro. I've seen a few who are pro's in my opinion. I know one of them could do it in like.....6-9 hours.

Don't have an update yet, but I'm working on it. I've just about finished the eye texture. I've got the iris done, did quite a good job on it too; I love photoshop. Putting in the eyes really really helps. However, I want to go for more of a realistic feel with this so I've got some tweaking to do on the face.

I was thinking of what to do for the hair. Joan had short hair as far as I know. Warriors of any sort normally have either short hair or their hair will be bound in some way as to not get in their way. As she's all suited up in this pic, then I imagine I'll go with a top knot, pony tail, or short hair. (hmm, pigtails?)

I must say also that I don't like the way the guy did the eyes in this tutorial. That's personal preference though.

Matta kondo!

Well, uh, a really small update from lunch hour. No close up as there's a lot to still do.

Hehe, I once did that tutorial as well. I was bored at my grandpas a while ago, so I just did the tut. I didn't finish it though, but I made the head and body. I prefer to usually make models from scratch without tuts, but I discovered the tut and couldn't resist. if you want to check out what I made from it look at my work page http://mysite.iptic.com/wurxware/work.html

Got started on the hair. It's not filled in on the front so a front pic would look a little, um, "Klingon"y.

There's quite a bit of tweaking still to do.

nother view that clearly shows tweaking is needed..:wip:

Here with an update.

Tell me what you think so far.

I want to fix the jaw line and fill out that part of the face, get the eyelids looking a ton better, get the specularity/reflectivity in on the eyes, and texture the darn thing... lots o' work. I've never animated anything complex so we'll see how that goes when it comes time.

back with another update. I'm done with the hair for now. I put in some basic eyebrow, I won't finish them until I have the face unwrapped as I need to mask off where they're placed and I can't do that w/out mapping coordinates fixed.

I fixed the mouth and jaw to fill it out. No I just need to really put some good detail in the eyelids.

Back again. Ready to start mapping this girl. UNLESS someone has some points to address... now's the time to fix any glaring problems anyone sees..

She needs a brow-line desperately. Do you have a side shot of just the head?

I would compare your low poly wireframe with the ones on the last page of the head part of that tutorial. You'll probably get it looking very good, but you'll never completely get rid of that "alien" look unless you have a more defined brow line.

:) You're right. I fixed the eyelids last night and in doing so, I got rid of what little brow ridge she had. That's a REALLY easy fix though. I appreciate the help!

Made fixes to brow ridge and it looks tons better to me. Also finished off the mouth and made lots of little touch ups. Raised the mouth a bit too. I'm calling modeling on this face done. Period. Have to move on....

UVW mapping started!!!

Just keeping this thread from falling off the face of the, uhh, forum. I'm working on rigging but really can only work on this on the weekend.

I'd still like to hear how I can improve the texturing on the face.

I've almost got my rig completely set up. I'm learning a ton doing this part.

I'm not quite sure how I should actually "bone" her though. Since the actual mesh is under all of the clothes and armour, couldn't I just delete it and attach everything together somehow? I'd appreciate suggestions on that aspect.

Just still workin...

Learning more and more but only on the weekends.. uggh. Too much work.

It's very cool :D U did well! but just try a different renderer. Because it looks so fake (CG) now.

Thanks! For right now, I'm attributing the fake look to the fact that I've only really created materials for the face and that's it. It's not even finished at this point either. The lack of an actual environment, good materials, fake lookin' hair, and fake looking hands is what I think it is right now. I don't think it's the renderer, it's the "artist".
