hi all,

I have a model that need to add some hairs to the head.
and.....

Do maya fur really good to use?
can i "turn" it to a Dynamics?
(all the movement from it, u need to add the Attrators )

Any others plugin thats better than maya fur?

or just using paintFx or Maya Hair(paintFx) indeed of Fur?

Maya fur is fantastic. As far as I know, yes, it will receive shadows. Maya 7 uses a more malleable hair system for dynamics, as opposed to the attractors in Maya 6.5 and lower. So yes, it can be dynamic. And my experimentation with it has yielded photo perfect results. It's very nice. The only thing is, there seems to be a limit to how many hairs can be rendered with mental ray (it will crash). Around 50,000 will be fine, but 150,000 will lead to a fury ball of flames. But as long as you aren't rendering perfectly straight hairs, you shouldn't need that many. :)
