It could be "Duel" too, but that would be to close to the crash thingie we had recently... I'm betting for close encounters, too. :)

Mmmmm, spaceships... all reels need 'em!

I don't know what 'dryfuss' is, but I still think it's gonna be Jurassic Parc (1 ;) ... > the first) or Jaws (1 ;) ... > the first)

Whatever it'll be: it'll be lots of fun... Hopefully the deadline will be áfter the Spectacular-deadline, so that I even may be able to enter! :scream:

Ok next Clue
John Williams...

-R

BloodHo
10-23-2005, 05:14 PM
Well, Steven Spielberg has done 2 movies with Richard Dreyfuss and those are Jaws and Close Encounters Of The Third Kind. John Williams did music for both of them. Roberto's clue "First.." is something i can't fit in to any Spielberg or Dreyfuss movie, maybe there is some mistake in that clue or in my understanding :)

rblitz7
10-23-2005, 05:18 PM
Ok well John Williams has done a bunch of speilberg movies so I have no idea.

Raiders Of The Lost Ark? If it's this what is that Dreyfuss about? This is interesting :)

Dutchman
10-24-2005, 09:13 AM
Then It'll be one of these:

Raiders of the Lost Ark (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082971/) (1981)
... aka Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (USA: video title)

1941 (1979)
Close Encounters of the Third Kind (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075860/) (1977)
... aka CE3K (USA: informal short title)
... aka Close Encounters of the Third Kind: Special Edition (USA: reissue title)
Jaws (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0073195/) (1975)

At least... That are the movies that it may be - those are from before 1981

Both Close Encounters and Jaws are scored by Williams, and both have Dreyfuss in it... So which of the 2 will it be..? The first!?! :scream: But which one ís the first?! :D

And I bet the scene will be a great white smashing a boat. :D

(at least I think having a shark eat a swimmer would be a bit, erhm... tasteless)

O.K, Iīll make a correction...
There are only two Spielberg films with Dreyfuss and Williams, but in none of those ILM did the FX. they are JAWS (1975) and Close encounters (1977). Always was produced in 1989, but ILM did the FX.
So, that leaves only 2 options. Jaws was the first big movie for Spielberg, but Close encounters has a biger FX work, so I guess weīll need a final clue.

Dutchman
10-27-2005, 08:20 PM
All clues listed:

inspired by a classic Steven Spielberg film.

Dreyfuss

The movie is a First...

John Williams...

Spielberg movie pre 1981

ILM did NOT do the VFX.

I'm wondering, did we guess this pages ago, or is Roberto tricking us? ;)
If that is so none of the clues is sure... And as theres a big chance that he ís tricking us ('Maybe') we can think some wider. ;)

So there's still a chance the theme will be Pirates of the Caribbean?! ;) :bounce:Funny that you mention that....
That reply did me think of some other - not before mentioned - film: Hook (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102057/)!
In every case Williams did do the music (what he did veeery brilliant... even more brilliant than now-a-days!). So at least one clue would be fitting than. ;)

It even may be a mix... A pirateship with Peter Pan flying away from it, while captain hook is being attacked by jaws, and while the dinosaurs are keeping an eye on there dinner: the jaws! :scream:

Yeah!

We'll just have to wait...

All clues listed:

Dreyfuss

The movie is a First...
John Williams...

Spielberg movie pre 1981

ILM did NOT do the VFX.

Hook was released in '91, so it doesn't fit the pre-1981 clue.

JAWS fits the list. It even predates the existence of ILM.
(well, I suppose ILM was formed a few months before the release of JAWS, but at that time they were pretty busy with a little movie of their own :p )

Did ILM work on Close Encounters?

I guess yuo guys didnīt read my post. There are two movies in wich Richard Dreyfuss starred, Williams did the music, and ILM DIDNīT do the effects. Jaws and Close encounters. It can be any of those since both are pre-81. My bet goes for CLOSE ENCOUNTERS because it is vissually more interesting.

Jaws and Close encounters.Yes, those are the two titles we've been talking about for a week now. :) And only one of those is a first, and that's Jaws. But Roberto also dropped a (fake?) clue there might be some Caribbean theme going on, beyond sharks...? ;) Tricky he is.

Ok, maybe itīs not so Spielberg related, but I post it here too:

Here are some suggestions for the next FXWARS after the Draculas Castle:

- Launch of a nuclear rocket from a submarine which is UNDER water.
The rocket launches from the submarine, goes itīs way to the water surface, the outer
hull gets off and the engine of the rocket starts. The blast interacts with the water.

http://www.cantarel.de/launch.jpg

Lot of effects like fluid dynamics, particle dynamics, volumetrics and some mechanical
stuff

- Air strike of a WW2 airplane against a german submarine which is on water
surface
Submarine is on the water surface while a british or american warbird approaches. It
starts firing on it with itīs mg or if it is a british one also with some small rockets. Some
of the munition hit the water, some the submarine. Finally the submarine explodes.

http://www.cantarel.de/airstrike.jpg

Lot of effects like fluid dynamics, particle dynamics, volumetrics and some mechanical
stuff

Within these topics a lot of nice modeling can be done, nice camera movements are possible and A LOT OF FX AND ACTION! :buttrock:

So what do you think? In addition with some music this can become a nice cinematic!

How soon we forget really good movies.....spielberg, dreyfuss...."Always".
Planes, Forest Fires, Ghosts, smoke, live action-dreyfuss the ghost walking out/away from a plane crash.....could be easy, could be your worst nightmare everything thing in one shot;live action, FX,Trees, camera movement. I'd guess it'd be create a trailer to that end...plane brushes tops of trees coming out of a dive, crashes, hero emerges from the flaming inferno ;)

Don't think the hints are meant to be "obvious" ones LOL

Looking forward to what it will actually be

edit...forgot the second crash where dreyfuss apears to be walking away from another crash in the herion's eyes and fades to the co-star (forget the name) the heroin's new physical boyfreind. Dreyfuss was the deceased one LOL....

Well it must be CEotTK...

From JAWS Trivia
With the schedule ballooning from 52 to 155 days, 'Steven Spielberg' had to juggle Universal's impossible deadlines, an unfinished script, chaotic conditions off Martha's Vineyard and a belligerent actor in Robert Shaw. On the last day of shooting, Spielberg wore his most expensive clothes to deter a dunking from the mutinous crew. As soon as the shot was captured, he jumped in a speedboat and sped shoreward yelling, "I shall not return."

Of course the Close Encounters trivia states

It is possible to see an upside down R2-D2 (from Star Wars (1977), etc) in part of the large spacecraft that flies over Devil's Mountain. The SFX people needed more detail, and so supposedly there are many more such items, such as a shark from Jaws (1975) (also directed by Spielberg), etc. R2-D2 is visible as Jillian first sees the mothership up close from her hiding place in the rocks.

Which could lead one to believe that ILM did have a hand in the film... this could only mean one thing. The topic is unicorns.

Hmmm sounds interesting. Me thinks it is a loose reference from the ending scenes of Close Encounters - the people coming out of the space ships are people who have gone missing in the..........

BERMUDA TRIANGLE! - fits the whole spielberg, dreyfus, williams thing as well as the caribean and character animation thing.;)

My other guess would be PORKY'S II. Break out the POSER Nudes!

Might be coincidental, might not, but...

I hadn't seen Close Encounters for many years and on a whim decided to ask my TiVo if it was on any time soon for a refresher.

Strangely enough, it'll be running twice Sunday (8pm/11pm EST) and again on Monday (5pm EST) on AMC here in the States.

Happy taping :-)

There are two other possible candidates other than Jaws and CLose Encounters for pre-81 films.

Those are:

1941,

and

Surgarland Express.

John Williams did the score for both these films. I don't know about the other clues fitting and neither has anything to do with the Carribian... but then neither does CE3K.
