Hi, I am working on an image that has graphics flying out of a monitor screen and I am trying to create realistic loking light beams that are trailing the graphics that are zoominng about. Can anyone help please?

Thanks a lot

are you meaning something like this

I would personally draw out the shape of the beam with path tool. Adjust the transparency and probably use a slight gradient layer mask to simulate the fade off. Colourise. and then blur. To get the glow effect make a couple of duplicate layers on top, each time give it a slightly greater gaussian blur (eg 2 pixles, then 4, then 8) - mess around and see what looks right. Then set these duplicated layers to a lighten blending mode like screen or colour/linear dodge.

Thats how i did this image with the light beam (no judging tho, this was done about 3 years ago when my photoshop skills sucked).

After that you may need to add colour noise to match the grain of the image. Hope this helps
