View Full Version : Sub D animation
kap13 10-17-2005, 09:16 PM I am sorry if this is a stupid quesion. I am making a character which requires fur. I was thinking of modeling the character in polygons, however fur doesent seem to work very well on polygon. So I have to convert the character into sub d's. This is fine for the look as I just made the character more boxy in polys before i converted. The fur seems to work fine on these types of surfaces, but i remember from reading in the maya foundation 6 book that they say its not a good idea to animated with sub d's? What should I do?

Yeah that's right, animating subD character directly is not correct you never get a real time feed back, it's so time consuming.
The work-around:
Convert your SubD into a polygon, keep a copy of the SubD.
Select SubD, shift select the poly object apply wrap deformer, in animation mode, under deform/create wrap.
Tweak with some of the atts to get your result.
It's better you put them in different layers so it's easier to analyse them as you animate.
So now you animate the poly and the SubD responds alike.
Good Luck
