Hello, I'm currently working on a game model of Abarai Renji from Bleach.

Here is a good reference for those who don't know. I am actually using most of these images
as my imediate reference.
Clicky (http://www2.odn.ne.jp/%7Ecai42330/figure/rengi_abarai.htm)

Here is what I have so far.

http://img281.imageshack.us/img281/2969/texture010yy.th.jpg (http://img281.imageshack.us/my.php?image=texture010yy.jpg)
http://img281.imageshack.us/img281/3174/screenshot02a1nl.th.jpg (http://img281.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshot02a1nl.jpg)
http://img281.imageshack.us/img281/3394/screenshot039zz.th.jpg (http://img281.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshot039zz.jpg)
http://img281.imageshack.us/img281/5609/screenshot043tr.th.jpg (http://img281.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshot043tr.jpg)

My only self crit is the neck. It seems too small to me, but I'm gonna model his head next then adjust as needed. I also am unsure if the geometry is clean. I have alot of inputs and I don't know how to simplify or make this mesh as is and clear the input history. I don't even know the terminology to say what I mean, so meh. :)

Anyway tell me what you think. Later I'm gonna have to figure out how to model his arm and sleave. Since as the arm moves around the sleave should roll back and forth I need to model it so that It looks realistic yet not be like a jillion polys. I could just model without an arm underneath a sleave and just make it a sleave as the entire arm, but ill cross that bridge when I get there.

Thanks in advanced. :)

Update:

http://img351.imageshack.us/img351/3892/screenshot050rd.th.jpg (http://img351.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshot050rd.jpg)

I decided to do the arms next. The layer that is set to uneditable will be the sleave.

Any tips on how to keep the entire thing animatable? I'm not sure how to approach the sleave when it comes to animating the elbow, so I need to prepare the geometry before hand. Crits appreciated.

Use this method to make sure that the mesh can deform correctly in animation.

I've seen better illustrations of this; I just can't find them. ;) Kudos to those of you with time and artistic talent.

From what I can see, it looks good. It looks like you've got some rotation in the arm and the hand lacks definition. You might want to take a second look at the neck; is the meshflow clean? I can't really tell.

Thanks for the reply. Is this what you mean? Its a screen shot of the back of the arm I posted last night, sorry I should've included this too. Heh.

http://img369.imageshack.us/img369/5070/screenshot065jx.th.jpg (http://img369.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshot065jx.jpg)

This is really my first arm and hand, human anyway. The twist is just what I thought would be logical, Is this not correct? I'm preatty sure the arm will animate well enough to work with later, but the problem is the sleave. How can I animate it with the arm?\

I could do this:

http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/7731/screenshot070ta.th.jpg (http://img156.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshot070ta.jpg)
http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/4281/screenshot081lq.th.jpg (http://img156.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshot081lq.jpg)

But the problem with this is the bottom of the sleave, it gets deformed, and will not animate correctly.

Anyway, I'm sure the answer will present it self. Thanks for reading.

Cool, Ichigo would prolly be easier than Renji, but I just choose renji cause he is cool :)

Anyway, here is a model of his head I worked on, it doesn't look much like the anime, but meh I'm tired and wanna goto bed.

Any comments at all? "It sucks"? "Go away"? "Good job"? "Add more edge loops"? "Gimme a bacon cheese burger with everything on it"?

Oh well, I'll follow this through regardless.

PS: Crits and tips are apreciated.

Yea, I've had problems with it since I started the head. I think this fixes most of the problems that I can see.

http://img485.imageshack.us/img485/5899/screenshot174ze.th.jpg (http://img485.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshot174ze.jpg)

I brought in the cheeks, nose, and eyes.

Here is a good reference for a front view, though a bit skewed.

I use primarily the manga itself as a direct reference. Also later on I'll use the anime for, well animation reference.

face is much better. as for using cartoon or comic images for reference, stick to one image for most of your decisions, as artists rarely get the proportions exactly correct from image to image, so if you start using lots, it can confuse the model and start looking "muddy"

Update:
Did some texture work, the modelling is done for the most part. I also remodeled the fingers and hand so now it looks 1000x better.
http://img432.imageshack.us/img432/117/screenshot194ow.th.jpg (http://img432.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshot194ow.jpg)
This is a very very very basic Texture just to get a feel for the colors. The chest is a screenshot, but everything else is just an airbrush in photoshop. The UVs are no where near optimized, and as seeing this is my first time actually unwrapping, texturing, and painting I am gonna just be sloppy and wild to get a feel for it.

If anyone has any tips for actually painting textures that would be BIG help.

I wanna thank ya guys for your input thus far, much appreciated.

http://img439.imageshack.us/img439/3637/screenshot184cg.th.jpg (http://img439.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshot184cg.jpg)

Since the begining of the project I used three images exsclusivly for viewport reference. What I meant by using the manga and anime as reference was just stuff like proportions and the way things look in relation to one another. More generalized stuff rather than actual geometry. Though keep in mind anime or manga or comics are art themselves so its almost impossible to get the same proportions with different shots. I guess I was lucky though I found a side profile and headon shots. If you want I'll post the reference I used in viewport, but only really upon request. I don't know if it's really needed.

Thanks alot for the input and time taken to read this :). And remember I have no clue how to texture so any input or help would be really nice. heh

I'm lost on how to actually texture a model. I need a good tutorial or help in how to learn to texture. If anyone could point me in the right direction or help me out I would really apperciate it.

I wanna aim for this style: Rouge Galaxy Screenshot (http://www.rpgamer.com/games/other/ps2/rogalaxy/screens/rogalaxy104.jpg)

Thanks in advanced.
