Hi guys
well just starting to learn Lightwave again.. I was wondering if there exists a plugin or function within maya that act like the draw split plug in maya. Basically you draw over your polies and its splits them, with interactive options to snap to points and also just place points.

Thanks for any help

take care

Edge Tool is what you are looking for I think.

You havn't Draw Split poly in LW. You have Edge tool which is Split polygon in Maya ( but with edge tool you can't split inside a face).
But honestly, are you using Draw split in Maya? This very slow and you have very unpredictable result + undo problem...This is not usable at all right now.

Hi Proton, thankyou very much for your help. ALthough not exactley what I was looking for it improved the workflow tenfold.
thanks for your quick reply.

Labuzz could you tell me in what menue this edge tool is, I can't find it. Please excuse me I am quite new to lightwave.
My expoerinces with the Drawsplit tool for maya have been nothing but success.I have used it on both high poly and low poly characters and it works with out fault.I have the plug from Highend 3D and running Maya 4.02. Very fast and definently undoable to as many levels as you want. Maybe if you give a situation where you have had troubles?:)

THanks again

take care

Ok.. draw split tool in Maya (using 4.0.. bonusgame plugpack)
That is a very basic version of LW's bandsaw tool.. Try bandsaw, and/or bandsaw pro, and all your problems will be gone :)

There is also a free plugin that allows you to select polys in various ways and interactively bandsaw them.

edge tool is the script you have downloaded(http://www.dstorm.co.jp/dslib/indexe.html) for split and remove edges. But you don't have an Auto Snap tolerance setting ( For the next version i hope)you have to use the numeric panel ( n hotkey) to check(stoppper) if you want to snap( and where %) or not. The cool things about edge tool in LW is that you can split at different places in a geometry without having to quite the tool + you can release the current selected split point. As i was saying you can't split inside a face.

About Draw split, i have done many try on low poly mesh i think it was it was under 4.0 not sure...many problems and it goes the same with reduce edges and the bandsaw like ( or meshtools like if you want ). Now i prefer to use split poly and cut faces (knife in LW ).

One more thing about Draw Split in Maya. It is not Bandsaw it is very much like if you was using the sketch tool (in lw) for split the poly.

Thanks for your replies I have not tried the new plug but I will as a soon as I can. I have although tried the edge tool provided by the firt link. My mistake for the confusion. I thank everyone for there assistance to a new user. Its very helpful to have such a community at hand. Many thanks:)

I just wanted to ask another question if I may, I have found lightwaves modelling to be very similar to the fluidity of Z-brush. In z-brush there is a keyoard option where you can quickly rotate the model to to face the camera on the z-yorz axis.Would be very useful tool.

thanks again for all your help

take care
