CGTalk - max script compiler messed up

Periodically while I am working the compiler will go into a state where it refuses to compile anything at all, giving me variable declaration errors when there shouldn't be any. Restarting max fixes the problem but resetting does not. Does anyone know what causes this, how to avoid it happening, or an easier way to fix it other than restarting max?
