me too finding that good..
me too loving the hull..
another view ? may be ?
i like it, but that lighting... i supose it's an early stage project, and you have the main light pointing in a way that you can see everything the right way, but it destroys the outer-space look. I'd try a more dramatic lighting, more defined shadows, and a little environment. Texturing is going great, and you could do something in te zone where the disc and the flat zone intersects. I know, I've been too hard, but you asked for it ;)

Thanks for the input everybody.
I haven't started working on the lighting just yet. I might start tonight after I finished texturing the rock wall which this structure is going to be attached to.
Is going to be an underwater shot for my short movie which takes place underwater. I'll post more views when I start working on the lighting
bri: you haven't been too hard, you have been honest, I appreciate that.
I'm going to explore your idea of doing something where the disc and the main deck meet and see what I can come up with.
you can see a teaser trailer on the link below called "A Step Below"

looks good so far. will be nice to see how it looks in the final environment. my only crit is the texture on the "propulsion jet" it is too harsh. the jet could use a bit more detail for such a massive surface. imho:hmm:
well, now i see that this isn't going to be a space scene, so forget about what I said. Offtopic, what happened to your avatar? I love SonGoku too, but your flying-saucer-head robot was great, specially with it's little son. Anyway, waiting to see your short film soon. Good luck:beer:

Hey bri
You suggestions about the disc and the flat poly is good wether is a space or underwater scene and I'll figure something out for that area.
the robot avatar will come back again... eventually, I needed a change for a bit, I didn't want to get sick of looking at it ;)

Anieves. The avatar!!:cry::cry::cry:
Image looking great, although the lights on the disc object look a little odd.
it's getting better and better, thou' the texture work is wasted by the bur&fog. But, as it's gonna be animated,(ant' it?) the closeups would gain the texturing presence. Keep the good wrk:applause:

hey guys, thanks for the comments.
I kinda knew that the texture work was going to be washed out by the fog. I can try to lower the minimum amount that should help with the textures closest to the camera.
It is going to be animated. The shot is meant to be a "placement" shot to let the viewer know where part of the action is going to take place.
dark_lotus: I'm not sure if I understand what you mean... how are they odd? the colors? I have them to dissolve with fog. they were too bright. I'm not sure what else to do with those lights, any suggestions?
btw, by popular demand... the avatar is back!

They're too fuzzy. They need to be brighter and sharper. (perhaps you need to model the interirors).
I think you also need more artificial lightsources on the model itself.
One other thing, I did an introduction to underwater photography, and part of this was the properties of light underwater.
I'll go dig up me textbook, if you want. But basically every colour tone from red - blue get filtered out (starting at red). Over a distance of 10 metres for sunlight.
Perhaps some gradients attached to Nulls might help.

hey thanks for the suggestions dark_lotus.
I am a SCUBA diver and I'm familiar with light absorbtion and scattering underwater but the image was starting to look a bit boring. The lights aren't meant to be lights to illuminate the object but to bring a little color to the image. They are attached to antenna arrays... I'll try adding more light sources from below and see what happens. I'll also make the lights like the foreground lights and see how I like it.
So, you do underwater photography?
My wife and I do too. We have a Nikonos V with a Ikelite substrobe 400 I can post some pictures of sharks and dolphins we have taken... These encounters were with wild animals that happened to be there not trained.
We are planning to go digital in the future.
Let me know if you want to see. They are cool!

Hey, It looks great. I love underwater Sci-Fi like the Abyss.
Anyway, I have some questions/comments for you.
1. How deep is craft? I've seen underwater shots that were PITCH black -- if it's deep enough. You might be able to go darker with the background, even with the lights.
2. Since artificial light brings out colors (even in deep water), then you could add some other colors and still be true to your scene.
3. Are you going to have ocean life checking out the lights?
4. Any future plans to add smaller submarine vehicles or remote cameras in the scene?
Well, it looks wonderful and I'm interested in seeing the finished product. Great work!

Tiburon thanks for the comments
I'll experiment a bit more with the lights. adding a school of fish would be cool. maybe I'll take the chance and do that following the flocking birds tutorial in the LW website.
There is really no "set depth" for this but for this shot I have to keep it consistent with the movie title scene which I am editing with this shot. I added a gradient for the background and it was ok but liked this blue better.
For anyone interested, here is a dolphin picture we took in the Bahamas las year. I have some shark close ups too... maybe I'll put them in my web site.
beauty from nature... not from 3d... this is new:surprised
