Ok, this is not a question on how to unwrap or anything like that..

What does the UV in UV unwrap stand for? Is it supposed to be co-ordinates or something? Nobody that I know knows this so I thought I would ask here...

I think its XY, but they didn't want to use xy (cause it could get confusing) so they dropped down to uv. Cause it's uvw and xyz. Makes little sense. :shrug:

I have no idea, but how about...

U = Unilateral
V = Vertical
W = Width

?? *shrug* Works for me.

yeah, uvw stands for mappings coord along xyz, no more no less :scream:

Just have a look into the user guide :

Mapping coordinates specify how bitmaps are projected onto an object. The UVW coordinate system is similar to the XYZ coordinate system. The U and V axes of a bitmap correspond to the X and Y axes. The W-axis, which corresponds to the Z-axis, is generally only used for procedural maps, although a bitmap's coordinate system can be switched in the Material Editor to VW or WU, in which case the bitmap is rotated and projected so that it is perpendicular to the surface.
