From the docs....
"The Move Tool now supports symmetrical modeling of components (faces, vertices, and so on).
When adjusting a model with the Move Tool (for example, a character's head), you often need to do so with mirror reflection; if changes are made to the top of the left ear, you want the top of the right ear to also be affected.
In the options for the Move Tool (double-click the Move Tool icon or select Modify > Transformation Tools > Move Tool > http://localhost:4449/Maya7.0/en_US/gfx/optbox.gif), there is a new Move Reflection Settings section. You can:
Turn reflection on. When you move a component, this moves the corresponding component along the reflection axis.
Select whether the reflection center is at the origin or with the bounding box of the object.
Set the Tolerance for the reflection (that is, how closely the selected component and the component across the reflection axis have to mirror each other in order for mirroring movement to occur).
Set the axis along which reflection occurs.
The move manipulators change to reflect the axis along which the reflection takes place:
The position of the sketched-in plane on the manipulator doesn't correspond to the actual origin of reflection (which may be outside of the current view); it's just a visual indication of the reflection plane (x, y, or z)."
