View Full Version : Blender admiration society
goldensparrow 10-15-2005, 08:42 PM Hello. Over the last few weeks blender seems to have developed masses of cool details and stuff, I would just like to say how great blender is. I own 3D studio max aswell as blender, not only is blender faster in terms of workflow, it's also fun to use. It's strange because I feel a strong bond with blender and although it doesn't have some of the things higher end apps have I like the sense of community involved with blender and watch with excitement as this wicked app grow and grows, I LOVE BLENDER.
Please join me in thanking everyone involved.

Kudos to the Blender team for keeping up the good work. Now with 2.4 around the corner, it calls for cheers all around!
All of us will have our wishlist of things that Blender should/could do but the last few versions have been no less than a "coming-of-age" for our favourite 3D app.
:applause::applause::applause:
Here's to the next growth cycle!!

You know, we should be thankfull of Google as well. It sponsored nothing less than 10 Summer of Code proyects than when straight to enhance Blenderīs feature set.
If Google keeps repeating the SOC thing year after year, I can foresee a strong and accelerated grow cycle for Blender.

Now that 3d studio maya 9 licenses will be charged $75.000 a year, holding on to their motto "More, not better"...
Now that Blender comes with the most innovative new features ever seen in CG-land (such as Verse)...
Open source is gonna take over the world!!:bounce:
It'll only take time untill the kids at school will say to their friends:
"Hey, have you seen the new Blender movie?"
- "No, what? A new movie made in Blender? And only now you're telling me? Let's skip history and go see it!"
BLENDER!!!

Fair is fair, it is not the best 3D app around, but where it has its strong points, the other apps have a hard time to beat it! When Blender shines, it shines! New functionalities are being added almost on a weekly basis. And the end is nowhere in sight. Soon there will be rendering in passes, continueing improvements to the animation system thanks to the animation recode, hair, wicked particles and much much more.
Free, small download size, install without fuss on any OS, Verse, Fluid sim, Softbodies, the fastest subdivision code around, a new animation system comparable to $$$$$$ animation apps. Blender is here to stay.

And explosions and Drivers and LSCM (this one is something that Blender can brag about) and OpenGL lighting in 3D window and ... well, you get the picture ;)

I seriously doubt Verse will be confined to Blender. In fact we know that even at this early stage Maya and Blender can share Verse so why not XSI and Maya.

I seriously doubt Verse will be confined to Blender. In fact we know that even at this early stage Maya and Blender can share Verse so why not XSI and Maya.
But Blender can brag to be the first popular app to support Verse... not to mention that Blender is already a member/sponsor of the Uni-Verse Consortium.
Going a little off topic:
By the way, have you noticed something called "Purple Project".. http://purple.blender.org/ Seems pretty "interesting" from here.
First, the blender part on the URL
Second " Purple is the development/codename for a deliverable in the Uni-Verse project. It is developed in cooperation between Uni-Verse partners PDC at KTH and the Blender Foundation."
From what it is written on the Purple website, it smells like Purple will be the inner core inside Blender 3.00 . For many time has the Blender developers talked about a huge rewrite of Blender, and they already said it will be saved for version 3.00
First it was "Orange", now "Purple"... they sure have a taste for colorfull codenames.
PS. Maybe itīs a coincidence, but in www.blender.org, when you click on "Blender Foundation" at the top of the page, the page backgrounds also turns Purple... God, arenīt conspiracy theories funny?

What is this verse engine I keep hearing about? Is it like an open source Source engine?

The alpha looks great so far. I think it finally grew up and it won't ake long before it will actually be on par with max nd maya ( maybe not XSI ;) ) . I like he modifier stack and the fluids. That's going to be cool. But I'm waiting for the rendertree.
