Hey all, I did this up for the guys at conceptart, just thought i'd put it up here for yazz too. :)

1) with a staedtler H i start with a few rought thumbnails different angles see what i feel like...
then rough out the one i like larger, about 8x4 inches.

2) starting with the upper half i work in what the armor will look like with an HB pencil and some references off
the net or out of books like ARMS&ARMOR a pictorial archive by Carol Belanger Grafton.

3) then i fill in the lower half mostly out of my head. But Firefly Pocket Guides books
on cats/dogs/horses are helpful to have kicking around

4) then i start shading in adding a few things here and there,
wip out the smudge sticks and probably stop here.

5) now i ink using Faber-Castell PITT artist pens.

6) with Letraset inks i lay down a wash with square bamboo brush to sorta set the mood.
i used cool gray pantone felts to fill in the armor.

7) and lastly i play around with some light prismacolor pencils and alittle more ink for good measure...
and some gouache for his face and left sock.

erm... WOW! This is :thumbsup: And it was nice of you to show us how you worked through the pic! It turned out great! ho ho! I love the mood... like illustrations you see in some childrens' books :D cool! post more of your work!

Ne!Ne! I just saw your home page, Ruby genesis! And I am now a fan of your work! Wish you had a guestbook! And wish we could see close ups of your work! Cos they're so good! The realism is fantastic! And your style~~! beautiful! Just beautiful! :drool:

Hey glad you all like, thx for the boost guys =) I'm in the process of building a real website, already got the .com for it! I'll let yazz know when the galleries are up you'll be able to see my stuff at a higher res.

Really nice work man!
I think you should have stopped in phase 4 though. The feel of the pencil only was great. Not a fan of inking it and coloring it (in the situation)

~neil: i hear you, for the longest time i would stop at the rendered pencil stage and just leave it. sometimes if i was up to it id give the image a light wash in watercolor. but i just could not ink my stuff it made me nuts. it was a real task to push myself to color my work with a darker medium, but a couple tutorials at conceptart.org really helped, and im pretty happy with my progress to date. :D (thanks coro!)
