View Full Version : Rendering - AARGH !!
Chappo 02-25-2002, 11:05 PM My god... the trouble i've been trying to render scenes in Maya 4 !
I've setup a load of poly planes with an .avi movie onto it...
And i've set the rendering globals to output straight into .avi and all that sh^t with raytracing etc. etc. all on.
Now.....when i render... the batchrender stops at a few renders and says RENDERING COMPLETE
even though it still got 1000 frames to do or so...
AND....sometimes i'm getting these wonderful "can't write render log " comment...
and sometimes i'm getting "out of virtual memory"
and sometimes i get this "0x....... memory " error window....
What tha %#!%!@ am i doing wrong ???
My god...............
sometimes , and i mean...sometimes.....i just want to kick the computer out of my window and just call it quits !
i'm wondering if TOP DOLLAR companies have any of these kind of small but frustrating problems also......

i share your pain , same thing is happening to me right now.
i have no clue why its stopping the render and saying its completed.
best of luck , i'll let you know if i come across a solution.

Wow .... i thought i was the only one !!
anyway.... it S^cks if you got it...
Already applied the optimize scene and render diagnostic and worked out most things, and still i get the same sh^t...
Grrrrrrr.....
i'm frustrated....Maya pms !
Hmm are you running out of memory by chance? Try rendering from the command prompt.

and how do i do that ? :)
well.... closing maya while doing a mayabatch results in the same end...
so....i'm not sure if a rendering from the command line will do much difference...... or i could be wrong...
IS it different ? :)
Check your manuals for details. What command prompt rendering does is the maya's renderer reads your scene, and your render globals and proceeds to render your scene without loading Maya. This saves a ton of ram and seems to be much faster over all. If you haven't tried it yet it's definately something you should try.
So I dont have to retype it all. Here is an earlier post I wrote.

Definitly if all else fails I always have been able to rely on the command prompt. And it will run faster since you dont have to have maya open.
Good luck

command prompt has always been reliable to me. just make sure u type in all the correct syntax commands. or else you'll be sitting there typing everything over and over again. check your manual for correct commands.
one other plus is that u get to see how long each frame is taking to render and from there u can determine how long your sequence will take to complete.
and maya doesnt have to be open :)

so there is a realtime progress bar or something ? :)
i'll check into that whole command line thing....
what if the scene was saved with correct settings already (in render globals) do i still need to type the whole lot in the command line ?

there's no progress bar. but it lets u know how long each frames takes to render.
as long as u save most of your commands in "render globals" than most of the commands u set in prompt is fairly easy.
ie.
render -s 0 -e 30 -b 1 -rd D:\pathToDirectory -n 2 D:\PathtoDirectoryFilename
refer to manual for what each syntax meaning.
its pretty easy.

You didn't say that you'd entered the number of frames in your initial post. Just thought I'd check you set that in your render globals...
It defaults to 10 if you don't set it....
Just a thought :-)
cheers,
