View Full Version : Renderman export features

First off, let me say I haven't seen the renderman bridge included with the production bundle. I'm believing (right or wrong) that it's going to be out of the reach of the average c4d user --at this point-- though I know that there's talk of it possibly being a separate module down the road. I also know that a lot of people have expressed interest in this renderman module (I'm one of them) and that got me exploring the various options out there for other packages...

So my question is... what would people want to see in a renderman export/bridge? Some examples... would you want some kind of renderman support for cinema's materials so that you could just load up any old scene and hit the export button and render it in renderman? Would you want to access external shaders? Would you want to code your own shaders from within Cinema? Is animation export a must have? What other features are must haves? And what package(s) does everyone use? BMRT? Aqsis? Pixie? 3Delight? PRMAN? Where would you rate your competency on Renderman stuff?

It might also be helpful to categorize things, like "these are must have features" and "this would be super awesome if it was in there, but I imagine it would be difficult to implement" and "hey, this would be cool"

I've read a lot of threads on renderman (and seen the old export plugin) but I'm just wondering *why* people want the renderman stuff so bad.

I know that it might seem futile to ask these sorts of questions with Maxon already having a renderman bridge, but I'm curious as to what people would like to see in one, whether it's an existing one (Maxon or from some other package) and/or how they would use it. (would most people be using custom shaders, for example)

Just curious.....

little bit to almost moderate, course I"m also a tester on maxon's so thats where I'm learning

I'm using it with Air, the production bundle will initially only support PRman and AIR directly, but does have rib export.
