View Full Version : Does c4d have a feature like Modo
ArtofacksOne 10-14-2005, 09:42 PM There is a feature where if you draw say a circle and you want to model a spline around it you can set the spline while you model it to follow the shape of the circle. Does C4d have a feature like that if yes , which I am sure it does can someone give me a brief or a tut link to learn more.

Thanks

uhm I think I need a better description or at least say what part of the video you mean, I saw nothing in that video at all that cinema can't do, but I also don't see which part matches what your speaking of.
If by string do you mean spline, then all he's doing is using snapping while drawing the spline. Or you cuold draw the spline and use project afterwards too.
Cinema has also a Spline project tool, but its not interactive. So you should project on "good" "ready" geometry Nevertheless this video tutorial can be done in Cinema 1by1, all funktions and action are available in the same way.

Hi Rob - the key here is to turn on 3D snapping, and check 'polygons', then the spline you draw will conform to the shape you're drawing on.

Well yes, but your explanations aren't always especially helpful. Saying 'it's done with snapping' is like someone asking how to model a car and replying 'with polygons'. God is in the details ;-)

there is a manual for those still needing to learn and giving step by step answers won't explain how things work like a manual

You guys....
You're both right. New "Shimmer" is a floor wax AND and a dessert topping. ;)

Thanks C. For your answer. I will go try it now. The part where the guy draws the spline to make the flash holder shape is what i was talking about, 3d snapping is it.

I tried , this is what i did.
1) I made a sphere converted it to poly.
2) I clicked on my move tool, than i while move tool was selected i clicked on snapp settings, I eneable snapping and construction plane was checked as well.
Type was set to 3d snap
Only Polygon was checked.
and unders Quantize only texture was enabled.
3) I selected my free spline tool and i start drawing my spline but it does not react like in modo where the tool follows the contour of the sphere.
Any help will be appreciated. I already went through the manual and didnt find any specifics on drawing a spline that will snap to a 3d object.
Thanks Again for your help.
Rob.

Snapping doesn't work with the freehand spline drawing tool. You must use one of the other spline tools. Also, uncheck "construction plane"
